September is just around the corner so we thought we'd take you back through the archives again.

This time. we are spotlighting our September 1996 programme, when we welcomed Oscar winner Jeremy Irons to the Tyneside for a gala screening of Stealing Beauty.

It was brimming with absolute 90s classics like Fargo, Hackers, Empire Records and Secrets & Lies. Maborosi the directional debut from Hirokazu Kore-eda also screened. Kore-eda is a Tyneside favourite with films like Shoplifters, Broker and Monster all doing really well here.

We even ventured to Sunderland for a Screen on the River takeover, showcasing classics like Withnail & I, Babe and Beautiful Thing (Which is screening again this month for its 30th anniversary!)

🌻 Beautiful Thing returns to cinemas, 30 years on.

We're excited to be part of Reclaim The Frameʼs nationwide campaign bringing Hettie Macdonaldʼs much-loved debut feature back to audiences.

A tender story of first love, belonging and growing up, Beautiful Thing follows neighbours Jamie and Ste as their friendship blossoms into first love, within a colourful, funny and warm portrait of family and community.
