WE’RE BACK!
Our holidays are over and we’re refreshed and ready for a week packed with movies, music and more. Here’s what’s happening at the Star & Shadow this week (31/08–06/09). Full programme via the link here www.starand shadow.org.uk
WEDNESDAY sees the return of TWILIGHT CAFÉ, our cosy evening social space, alongside the PSYSOCNE MONTHLY PSYCHEDELIC INTEGRATION CIRCLE, a peer-support and harm-reduction session.
The PERMACOMPUTING CLUB is also back, exploring more thoughtful approaches to technology and computing.
THURSDAY brings our first movie back: Wakaliwood cult action sensation WHO KILLED CAPTAIN ALEX? When Captain Alex is killed fighting the Tiger Mafia, his brother sets out for revenge.
The STAR & SHADOW FILM & TV QUIZ also returns. Bring a team and take on one of the toughest quizzes in town.
FRIDAY brings DESTROYING A LIVING ALBUM LAUNCH with POWTES, NEV CLAY, JASMINE PADGETT FAMILY BAND & WORMS – four takes on Newcastle’s weird, alt and experimental folk scene.
Our Friday film is CUBA AFTER CASTRO, exploring Cuba’s lesser-known history and turbulent present, followed by a Q&A with Rock Around the Blockade.
SATURDAY starts with BURNOUT CLUB, a laid-back space to get creative or simply relax around nice people.
Then TV ON THE BIG SCREEN brings DOCTOR WHO back to the S&S with THE MARK OF THE RANI, featuring the Sixth Doctor in the only televised Doctor Who story set in the North East.
On SUNDAY, the café opens from 12pm alongside ART CLUB and the WOOLLY MAMMOTH KNITTING CLUB.
We round off the week with NO MAN’S LAND. During the Bosnian War, two soldiers from opposing sides become trapped between enemy lines, while a third lies immobilised on a landmine. Darkly funny, tense and devastating.
