Bagdad Theater

Bagdad Theater Popular pub and picture palace This marvelous relic of Hollywood's Golden Age is a movie palace full of wonder and surprises.

For nearly four generations now, the Bagdad's Mediterranean/neon persona and daily films have made it an icon of Portland's vibrant Hawthorne District. The interior is an attraction in and of itself, with barreled arches, ornate wrought-iron fixtures, brilliant mosaics and painted Mediterranean designs and characters.

If you love a psychological thriller, unreliable narrators, deeply questionable decisions, and a story that makes you wonder “wait… who am I supposed to believe?”, Verity is now playing at the Bagdad Theater. 👀

Adapted from Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, the film follows struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), who heads to the Crawford estate to ghostwrite for renowned author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway).

Then she finds Verity’s disturbing autobiographical notes.

Suddenly, the line between fiction and reality, manipulation and attraction, opportunity and obsession gets very blurry.

If you loved the book, you’re probably going to have thoughts.

We’ve been playing Primetime for a few days now… and we’re OBSESSED. 🎬

The film follows TV journalist Chris Hansen during the height of his To Catch a Predator fame, as the pressure to chase bigger ratings starts pushing the line between ambition and ethics.

If you haven’t seen it yet, this is your sign to make a night of it and see what all the fuss is about.

Tickets are on our website. 🎟️

If you’ve ever walked through the Bagdad and gotten that feeling that someone was watching you…

Maybe they were.

For almost 100 years, people have watched movies and made their way through the halls of the theater.

And apparently, some of them never really left.

This October, we’re opening up for Bagdad Ghost Tours. Join us as we explore the spookier side of the Bagdad, between disappearing long-dead ushers, crying in the balcony bathroom, and even a bullet hole in a bar.

There are multiple tour dates throughout October leading up to Halloween.

Visit our website for dates, times, and tickets... if you’re brave enough.

What’s your favorite sweet to eat while watching a movie at the Bagdad? 👀

Popcorn? Chocolate? Something sour? The candy you loved as a kid that somehow still hits?

The important question: what are you grabbing?

Oh, and if you prefer your candy cold... check the ice cream freezer before the movie starts. 😉
