Shankweiler's Drive-In first lit up the night sky in 1934, and has been entertaining moviegoers on it's massive outdoor screen ever since. It is the second drive-in theater ever constructed, and the oldest operating drive-in theater in the America and the world! Our goal here at Shankweiler's is to preserve and evolve an important piece of history while crafting an unforgettable moviegoing experience in a safe, clean, and inviting atmosphere.

Among our many stops along Route 66, one of the most impactful and inspiring was a visit to the (then) abandoned Tee P*e Drive-In in Sapulpa, OK. I was already running another drive-in theater at this time, but Lauren and I often reflect on this day as the inciting moment when we decided we wanted to own a theater together. We even talked about reopening the Tee P*e!

A few years later, we bought Shankweiler's. We're also happy to report that the Tee P*e has since been restored and reopened, just not by us! We tagged them in the comments, and we hope to return and take in the beautifully revived drive-in!

Disney/Pixar’s CARS returns to the drive‑in for a rare cinematic anniversary event. After intermission, and by popular request, we premiere COYOTE VS. ACME. Join us for a weekend of family fun under the stars!

On Saturday, September 5, our friends at the Sugar Cycle return with their tricycle filled with gourmet, handcrafted ice cream sandwiches and frozen treats!

We have a fun snack bar special this weekend to celebrate the 20th anniversary of CARS. We will be selling official Cars themed, kid‑sized snack packs. Each pack includes popcorn, a drink, and a pack of Welch's fruit snacks for just $7.00! Available while supplies last.

From now until September 12, we are collecting new and gently-used kids' Halloween costumes (and children's books) for The Costume Project. You will see their donation bin in our snack bar for the next few weeks!

The Costume Project's goal is to make Halloween affordable and sustainable within our local community. They will be giving away the costumes they collect at a family fun event in October.

Those who bring a costume or book for the collection will receive a free small popcorn!

We're debuting the 20th anniversary of Disney/Pixar's "Cars" this weekend, which takes place in the fictional Route 66 inspired town of Radiator Springs. Here's a fun story about that. Very (very) early in our relationship, Lauren for some reason agreed to hop into my 1990 Plymouth Horizon and slingshot halfway across the country to drive along the original Mother Road.

We were determined to follow the route as closely as possible, winding across dirt paths, through ghost towns, and visiting roadside attractions both flourishing and long forgotten. But one thing was consistent along the entire route, Cars. This movie not only captured the spirit of these communities; the communities themselves also embraced the movie with what seemed like dozens of towns adapting the moniker of "the original Radiator Springs." It was such a unique extra dimension to a cherished journey, and something we are excited to revisit with all of you this weekend!

Summer's not over yet, but our fall programming gets an early start with drive-in premiere of PRACTICAL MAGIC 2! Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return in this bewitching follow-up to the beloved supernatural romance that has become a generational seasonal staple. This premiere will be presented as a double feature. Our cofeature will be announced soon!

It's our last full, 7-day week at Shankweiler's for the year and we're finishing strong! Tonight is our Attack of the Killer Tomatoes double-feature (with special giveaways!), then the final two shows of Insidious: Out of the Further, and then onto our family-friendly Labor Day weekend programming. Next week we return to our usual 4-day schedule (Thursday through Sunday, year-round!) but we'll have some fun mid-week surprises throughout the fall.

Super Troopers 3 is our cofeature to the new Insidious movie. There are a few more showings this week before Labor Day weekend, and we only have a few of these commemorative, collectable cups left in the snack bar! Gates open at 7pm tonight.
