OI OI Oxford. It's that time of year again.

Our favourite chaos agents Cinema Under The Stairs are back under our roof for Shocktober, and honestly we wouldn't have it any other way at this point - they just keep coming back for more and so do we!

Two nights. Two absolute menaces of the horror genre. Brace yourselves:

🔪 SAW - Tuesday 13th October
Doors 7:30pm, film 8pm
Two blokes wake up chained in a filthy bathroom with a tape recorder and some Very Bad Choices to make. A cult classic for a reason. Jigsaw wants to play a game and frankly, so do we.

📹 [REC] - Thursday 15th October
Doors 7:30pm, film 8pm
A news crew follows the fire brigade into a locked-down apartment block and things go VERY wrong VERY fast. Found footage horror at its most relentless - not one for the faint hearted, consider yourself warned.

Grab your tickets through CUTS directly- as this is the only place they're being sold, so don't go looking on our site, you won't find them there:

🎸 A FREE SCREENING, YOU SAY?

Well, we’re not going to argue with that.

24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE is coming to The Oxford Cinema & Cafe as part of Cinematik Escapes.

“They were going to change the world…”

Before Britpop. Before the superclubs. Before everything got a little too polished.

Michael Winterbottom’s brilliantly offbeat film throws us straight into the wild, chaotic world of Manchester’s music scene, following the people, music and madness behind Factory Records, Joy Division, New Order and the Hacienda.

Basically, Manchester in the days when things were considerably less sensible.

📅 Tuesday 6th October
🕗 8:00pm

🎟️ FREE ENTRY

Yes, actually free.
You just need to book in advance. 🖤

This screening is presented in partnership with Cinematik Escapes.

🎟️ Important bit: tickets need to be booked directly through the Cinematik Escapes website, rather than through The Oxford Cinema & Cafe website.

So come along, settle in and spend a couple of hours in the wonderfully chaotic world of Manchester, Factory Records and the Hacienda.

And yes, you can absolutely grab a coffee beforehand. ☕️

FREE FILM. 18+. 8PM.

Two very different films. One very busy week at the cinema. 🎬

DIGGER

And then there’s Tom Cruise.

Except… not quite the Tom Cruise you’re used to.

Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu (Birdman, The Revenant), Digger stars Cruise as a larger-than-life oil tycoon who finds himself trying to save humanity from a disaster of his own making.

It’s strange. It’s big. It’s very much not Mission: Impossible.

And yes, that really is Tom Cruise under all that makeup.

Alongside Cruise, the cast includes Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg and Jesse Plemons.

Two films. Two very different kinds of chaos.

Which one are you picking? 👀

Two very different films. One very busy weekend at the cinema. 🎬

VERITY

If you’ve read Colleen Hoover’s Verity, you already know this one comes with a certain… reputation.

Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett star in this dark, twisty thriller about a struggling writer who takes on a job completing the books of an injured bestselling author, only to uncover some deeply disturbing secrets along the way.

If you like your Sunday afternoon cinema with a healthy amount of “WHAT the hell is going on?”, this might be one for you.
