The Ultimate Picture Palace is an independent community-owned cinema showing a mix of indie, international, art-house, mainstream, documentary, and classic films. Our single-screen auditorium has 105 seats with a small bar serving drinks and snacks. However, with social distance restrictions in place, our maximum capacity is now around 30. We don’t show adverts, so the advertised time is the actua

l start time for the film. Other regular special screenings:

Classic Films (Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings). Baby Club (Every other Thursday, 12:00) - screenings exclusively for parents with babies under one-year-old. Wheelchair access
The access to the main entrance of the cinema and ticket office is level, as is the entrance to the screen and bar. The toilets are below the screen down a few steps. However, we have an arrangement in place for our customers to use the facilities of our neighbours. The cinema is just off Cowley Road, on Jeune Street and is easily accessible from the bus stop. There is space for a taxi to stop directly outside the cinema and there are a few disabled parking bays opposite the main entrance.

🎸 Nirvana: The Band, The Show, The Movie – One of the films of the year, Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol bring their cult guerrilla TV series to the big screen.

🤠 Toy Story 5 - Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the gang are back and they're facing their greatest challenge yet: a kid who'd rather swipe a screen than pick up a toy.

⚔️ The Last Viking - A surreal and brilliant Danish black comedy starring Mads Mikkelsen as someone who believes they're John Lennon and can't remember where they buried the loot from a decades old heist.

💚 Effi O Blaenau - Back for an extra screening after proving so popular with audiences last week. Leisa Gwenllian is searing in this spikily funny adaptation of Gary Owen's celebrated one-woman play.

🎉 Winstanley - Join us as we celebrate 50 years of UPP Cinema with a special screening of the very first film we showed on our opening day in 1976. The event includes an introduction and a fascinating talk about the history of the cinema.

✊ Everybody to Kenmure Street - Featuring a special introduction from Oxford Stand Up To Racism, this inspiring documentary tells the story of a community coming together in solidarity.

🎂 50 years ago on Saturday, the Penultimate Picture Palace opened its doors for the very first time.

🎉 To celebrate this special milestone, we're taking it right back to where it all began with a screening of Winstanley – the very first film ever shown here – presented in glorious 35mm.

🎞️ Introduced by UPP's Executive Director Micaela Tuckwell, the screening will also include a short talk by local historian Liz Woolley on the UPP during the 1970s.

Tickets for Kino Kids Cinema Club screenings are £5 for Children (under-15s) and £7 for Adults. Screenings are relaxed, meaning that the there are no adverts, the sound will be turned down a notch, and the lights will be up a little, and we don’t mind if people make a bit of noise or move around during the film.
