The Colombian short is part of our “Colombia, Presente!” programme, which will take place on Saturday, 24th of October at our Leith location. 📽️

Early 2000s, Colombia.
The Thunder Platoon, a group of young Colombian soldiers, celebrates a recent victory at a tropical estate.
Their commander, Montoya, is also preparing to be decorated for his role in the fight against the “terrorism” of the time.
As night falls, however, the celebration is interrupted by a violent storm.

Pelotón Trueno premiered in the Official Short Film Competition at the Cannes Film Festival.

Theo Montoya is a filmmaker, director of photography, and occasional actor in his own films, internationally recognised and the recipient of multiple awards.

When Hamas erupted from Gaza on October 7 2023, the world was shocked, and sympathetic to Israel. However, within a few months most of that sympathy had gone as the world recoiled in horror at the savagery of the Israeli response – though few Israeli Jews seemed to notice anything untoward.

As a British-American Jew, the multi-award-winning documentary maker Gillian Mosely wanted to know what had happened to make Jews, a people who had experienced oppression, othering and genocide, so morally numb that in Israel 73 per cent of those polled supported the way their country waged war in Gaza.

More widely, she wondered, what causes the moral disengagement that allows atrocities the world over?

Last Saturday, we kicked off our new season at CinemaAttic with the short film programme “Young Hearts, Strange Worlds”, curated by Alberto Valverde Alvarez 🎬.

We also inaugurated our new location at 📍South Leith Parish Church Hall, where we presented the seven Spanish shorts of the programme.

A huge thank you to Sabor Al Toque | Colombian Food🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧🇨🇴 for the delicious Colombian food they provided for everyone, to our amazing volunteers for making it such an incredible night, and, of course, to everyone who came along to enjoy some good cinema with us! ❤️

It was an incredible way to start our new season, and we’re excited to say that we’ll be back in Leith on the 24th of October for our second event! More info coming soon 👀

We loved screening Frontera, especially because its themes are so relevant today as well.

No More History Without Us (2024) was a profoundly sincere film, true to its creators’ manifesto, confronting the silences and biases that shaped what we call history, and to the emotions left behind by the absence of social justice and the neglect of those who protect the Amazon rainforest, one of the most exploited territories.

These are stories that must be heard. 🌿
