CinemaAttic CinemaAttic is a platform for Iberian and Latin American cinema based in Scotland.

CinemaAttic was established in 2008 in Edinburgh as an arts and culture blog to provide a platform for thoughts and ideas about independent cinema. The name derives from its first venue, a secret loft located in the heart of Edinburgh that was converted into a cinema to host underground cultural events. Today, CinemaAttic has flourished into one of Scotland’s key players in the film exhibition sce

ne, delivering our events strategically with some of the most prominent Scottish festivals and organisations. With enhanced film experiences and a strong social approach that allow us to reach transversal popular audiences beyond festival goers and specialised audiences, we have become one of the most active members of Film Hub Scotland. CinemaAttic is a case of consistency and commitment to a film programming proposal that has enriched Scotland’s film scene for almost thirteen years now. Despite CinemaAttic’s evolution we continue to maintain the initial foundation of reclaiming the artistic value of independent cinema in our all-year-round ‘handcrafted’ programmes of world cinema.

No More History Without Us (2024) was a profoundly sincere film, true to its creators’ manifesto, confronting the silences and biases that shaped what we call history, and to the emotions left behind by the absence of social justice and the neglect of those who protect the Amazon rainforest, one of the most exploited territories.

These are stories that must be heard. 🌿

Fifteen years ago, Zé Claudio and Maria were murdered for defending the forest and the people who depend on it. Their legacy lives on through those who continue that fight.

Join us for a special evening with Claudelice Silva dos Santos, human rights and environmental activist from Pará, Brazil, and sister of Zé Claudio. She founded the Zé Claudio e Maria Institute in their memory, and her work has earned her a nomination for the EU Sakharov Prize (2019) and finalist recognition for the Tulip Award for Human Rights.

Following the screening of No More History Without Us (2024), Claudelice will be in conversation with Xuanlin Tham, curator for Take One Action.

A space to listen, reflect, and stand with those still fighting for justice and for the forest.

No More History Without Us (2024), by Priscilla Brasil and Raphael Uchôa, explores how racism and colonial thinking helped create the notion of the Amazon as a “demographic void” incapable of speaking for itself. A necessary and urgent story, told by Amazonian voices, that challenges dominant narratives.
