There's just over two weeks to go until Fright Club returns to QUAD - Derby

We lost Sam Neill early this year - an actor acclaimed for roles in films such as The Piano and Jurassic Park. This August we celebrate one of his many forays into horror with Andrzej Żuławski's renowned psychological terror Possession.

Whilst not a huge success upon release, it has been re-evaluated over time and has become respected as one of the heights of the genre. with one critic declaring it "one of the most enigmatic and uncompromising horror movies in the history of cinema".

A massive thank you to all who attended our screening of Two Boxes - a double helping of Spanish terror!

In honour of the late Sam Neil, Fright Club is bringing you the classic Possession this August!

"A woman (Isabelle Adjani) starts exhibiting increasingly disturbing behaviour after asking her husband (Sam Neill) for a divorce. Suspicions of infidelity soon give way to something far more sinister. Zuławski’s 1981 film left critics and audiences confused on original release, before being banned as a video nasty. Over the 45 years since it has been reappraised as a classic of world cinema."

Screening takes place at QUAD - Derby on Friday 28th August at 8:55pm with an introduction from cult film historian Darrell Buxton!

With our screening of Fright Club: Two Boxes – Televised Terror in Franco’s Spain + Intro just a few days away, August's Fright Club screening has now also gone on sale.

Andrzej Zulawski's 1981 masterpiece of extreme cinema Possession (18) stars Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill as a couple whose marriage is disintegrating, and famously features bizarre dopplegangers, strange tentacled creatures, and possibly the most famous freakout scene in film history.

See it at QUAD - Derby with an intro from Fright Club's Darrell Buxton on the evening of Friday 28 August.

Tickets to both screenings are now on sale via the QUAD website.

Join us again on July 24th for a double bill of Spanish terror as we bring you Two Boxes – Televised Terror in Franco’s Spain!

This is a double bill of two classic Spanish television horror films. Both terrifying and darkly comedic in equal measure, these two cult TV movies reflect life under the tail end of the Francoist regime in the ‘70s, where state surveillance, media censorship and social control were still the norm.

In Antonio Mercero’s La Cabina, an unnamed man (José Luis López Vázquez) enters a newly installed telephone box, only to become trapped inside.

In Chicho Ibáñez Serrador’s El Televisor, a dreary suburban man (Narciso Ibáñez Menta) buys a coveted TV set, and soon becomes dangerously obsessed.
