RAM_Fest was full of nostalgia at the weekend as people of all ages played retro games in QUAD’s galleries.

We travelled back in time and played on consoles that brought back childhood memories. The clunky noises of the keyboards gave us a sense of appreciation of how technology has developed over time. We enjoyed having the opportunity to experience these retro games and find out more about the history of gaming.

They may not have been the same versions of games that we had played as children but it was interesting to see the origins of these games and how they had evolved.

We had the chance to meet independent game developers and see what they are doing to push game design of the future. It was interesting to explore how technology affects humans and that a game can be something that you can learn from and makes you think.

Tomb Raider was developed in Derby and It created a legacy for game developers around the world. Lara Croft is a strong, independent and positive role model that solves her own problems. The galleries used memorabilia to tell this story.

Our top highlights of RAM_Fest were:

1. Having the chance to play on an old Macintosh computer.

2 Playing games such as Pong and Mario Kart Double Dash with festival volunteers because I had never had the chance to play these games before.

3. Playing Sonic The Hedgehog as it brought back childhood memories.

4. Learning how to create my own video game using Bloxels.

We hope that RAM_Fest comes back next year!

We're feeling very inspired by Greta Thunberg, talking here about how little time we have left before climate change is irreversible, and how we all need to act now.

We have had a look at this because we have been looking at the Made/Unmade exhibition at Derby QUAD, which has sparked several discussions about climate change.

'Mid90s' is a film directed by Jonah Hill and is in the Derby QUAD now! It follows Sunny Suljic's character Stevie as he tries to find his place in the world. He leaves his home life with a single mother and an abusive older brother for a life of skateboarding with his new friends.
