Cycle to the cinema to watch inspiring films on biking, climbing, running and other adventurous sports. The concept is simple – we put on great films across the Peak District and you cycle to them. …et voilà – exercise, entertainment and a social, all in one go. (In case you are wondering, yes we will allow you in if you don’t come by bike, but we hope you’ll enter into the spirit of things). Like this? We also run the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (4-6 April) and the Buxton Adventure Festival (October 10-12) and help organise the Cliffhanger outdoors festival in Sheffield (21-22 June).

Week 4 Day 3 - Today we present Kroger’s Canteen, a short story about an aid station and the people that make it happen, which featured in Run Films at ShAFF 2016.

In 2014, Kilian Jornet won the Hard Rock 100 mile run through the San Juan’s of Colorado. Along the way he stopped at Kroger’s Canteen – an aid station perched on a tiny ledge, 13,100ft above sea level. This is a story about that aid station, about the people that make it happen, and about the spirit one can only find at the Hard Rock 100.

Eden

Weekly Watchlist Day 2 - Today’s film is Eden, a climbing film which is set around a little known crag close to Carlisle called Armathwaite. Screening as part of climb films at ShAFF 2016, the film was also won the Gold Award for its amazing soundtrack.

In the early 1970s the border city of Carlisle became an unlikely epicentre for hard traditional climbing and a scene developed that rivalled any in the UK. The atmosphere was competitive, a new E-grading system was born and new milestones were set. Eden is set around a little known crag close to Carlisle called Armathwaite, it was a meeting place and training venue for the Penrith and Carlisle teams, who were looking to make their mark on the British crags. The film features Pete Whillance, Pete Botteril, Charlie Woodburn and Pete Gunn and is a tribute to a much loved character who changed the face of British climbing, Jeff Lamb.

Sheffield Adventure Film Festival 2020

Although we love to get something for nothing, paid-for content will really help support filmmakers at this time. Adventure films are usually made by small independent production companies who are currently unable to work, but the great news is that you can invite adventure into your own home for less than the cost of a coffee and cake, or a couple of pints.

So, alongside their weekly watchlists of free online content, the ShAFF team are listing some of the best on-demand adventure films for your indoor inspiration and entertainment. Today they have published a list of on demand films that featured in ShAFF 2017, including UK bouldering documentary Blocheads, Cedar Wright's paragliding adventure Fledglings, and the story of ultra-running legend Mira.

KATABATIC Exploring Antarctica's Unclimbed Peaks HD

Weekly Watchlist Day 4 - Today’s film is Katabatic, an Antarctic climbing epic.

When explorers Mike Libecki, Freddie Wilkinson, Cory Richards and Keith Ladzinski set out for the Wohlthat Mountain Range of Antarctica to climb and explore this nearly uncharted part of the world, they had no idea what they were getting themselves into. Almost impossible to prepare for or to be rescued from, inland Antarctica is hailed as the largest desert in the world, a nearly lifeless landscape ravished by katabatic winds that scour the landscape at over 100 mph. Katabatic screened as part of Mountain Films at ShAFF 2016.

Across the Ice

Weekly Watchlist Day 2 - Today’s film is Across The Ice, which screened as part of Spirit of Adventure at ShAFF 2016.

In 2010, explorer Sebastian Copeland and partner Eric McNair-Landry crossed 2,300 km of the Greenland ice sheet towing 240 lb sleds on skis and kites. Braving crevasses, blizzards and exhaustion, they set fresh tracks in the heart of the ice and a new world record: the longest distance traveled in 24 hours by natural means - a remarkable 595km.

Our judges said, “A genuinely extraordinary adventure story with images that you almost certainly have never seen before.”

THE IMPORTANT PLACES.

Weekly Watchlist Day 2 - Today’s film is The Important Places, which screened as part of Spirit of Adventure Films at ShAFF 2016.

The important places, we all have them. They’re the places that awed us, that inspired us, that fed our souls. Sometimes we wander far from them, but the memories remain. Sometimes we have to return there to feel whole again. In this film, a father and son return to one of the father’s important places, the Grand Canyon. There they discover more about each other—and the bond they share. This is an important film, about the important places.
