Together with other organisations representing Europe's cinema, film and audiovisual sectors, UNIC has signed a joint statement calling for adequate funding for AgoraEU.
We urge EU Member States to ensure that AgoraEU has the resources needed to achieve its objectives.

Europe’s culture, media and democracy deserve investment, not cuts.

We, the undersigned organisations representing Europe’s cinema and audiovisual sectors, call on EU Member States and the Irish Presidency to reject the proposed cuts to AgoraEU and secure a budget consistent with its objectives under the 2028–2034 Multiannual Financial Framework.

A great few days in Los Angeles at the 2026 Cinema United Fall Summit, bringing together industry leaders to exchange perspectives on the opportunities and challenges facing cinemas and the future of the big-screen experience.

🎬 A successful first edition of Kino Days in Czechia!

The first-ever Kino Days brought 209,000 cinema-goers to screens across the country over two days. Compared with the previous weekend, attendance increased from 89,000 to 209,000.

From Friday to Sunday, total box office revenue also rose by 39% compared to the previous weekend, from CZK 19 million to CZK 26 million, with participating cinemas accounting for more than 90% of admissions.

On 17 September, UNIC joined cinema operators, distributors and industry partners in Dublin for the All Ireland Summit, hosted at The Stella.

UNIC CEO Laura Houlgatte shared the latest trends and figures from across the European cinema industry, as part of a packed day of discussions on the opportunities and challenges facing the Irish cinema sector.

🎬Great results for National Cinema Days in Germany and the UK!

The latest national Cinema Days events in Germany and the UK have shown the continued power of the shared cinema experience!

🇩🇪 Germany — DAS KINOFEST 2026

More than 2.08 million people visited participating cinemas across Saturday and Sunday - making it the biggest cinema weekend in Germany in 20 years.

• 700+ cinemas took part
• Attendance was 26% higher than the record year of 2025
• Sunday alone saw 1.12 million tickets sold, the best cinema Sunday since Christmas week 2003
• Only 2005 saw more visitors over a comparable weekend, with more than 2.11 million

The five most popular films were Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Die Odyssee, Das gewisse Etwas, PAW Patrol: Der Dino Film and Minions & Monster.

🇬🇧 UK — National Cinema Weekend

The UK event welcomed 1.54 million admissions nationwide, with 550+ cinemas taking part.

The research shows how strongly the event connected with audiences:

• 80% of attendees said the two-day celebration reminded them what is special about going to the cinema
• 40% said they would not have visited the cinema that weekend without the event
• 25% of attendees were aged 16–24
• 74% of families said the offer was important in their decision to attend
• 29% expect to increase their planned cinema visits

2.08 million in Germany. 1.54 million in the UK. Millions of reasons to keep celebrating cinema. 🍿🎬

UNIC at the Lumière Summit
UNIC was proud to join global film industry leaders at the Lumière Summit in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, where the Lumière Declaration was adopted.

The Lumière Declaration highlights the importance of diversity of works, discoverability, investment in new talent, image education and the protection of intellectual property, while recognising cinemas as a privileged space in which audiences can encounter ambitious works and share the experience of watching together.

The Summit also delivered a clear message on the value of the exclusive cinema window: theatrical exclusivity as a powerful driver of attention, cultural impact and long-term value.
