🎬 Cairns! We’re bringing Flickerfest back to the beautiful Cairns Botanic Gardens on Friday 24 & Saturday 25 July, with screenings under the stars from 7:30pm each night in partnership with Starry Night Cinema

✨Grab your friends, pack a picnic, bring a blanket or a comfy chair and settle in for two unforgettable nights of Australia's best short films in one of Cairns' most magical outdoor settings.

🌃Friday night is all about the Best of Australian Shorts – a brilliant mix of comedy, drama and heartfelt stories from some of the country's most exciting filmmakers, featuring familiar faces including Hugo Weaving, Kat Stewart, Colin Lane, Peter Phelps and Michala Banas.

🌟On Saturday, join us for a special 35th Anniversary Retrospective celebrating the incredible filmmakers who got their start at Flickerfest and went on to become some of Australia's biggest screen talents. Catch early works from Bluey creator Joe Brumm (who spent much of his childhood in Cairns!), David Michôd, Rachel Griffiths, Nash Edgerton, Adam Elliott, Warwick Thornton and more.

This year marks Flickerfest's 35th birthday, and we can't think of a better way to celebrate than sharing these extraordinary Australian stories with Cairns audiences.

Katherine Friends Flickerfest is heading back to Katherine Cinema 3 cinemas in partnership with Katherine Film Society for a fantastic night of award winning Australian short films and festival favourites.

🏆At 7pm catch some of the standout films from this year's festival in Bondi where big names, strong talent and bold stories hit the big screen.

🏃‍♀️ Don't miss the moving 'Tuesday Tuesday' starring Peter Phelps, the tender 'Packed Away' from Michala Banas, the darkly funny 'Baby Shower' directed by Matt Day and starring Hugo Weaving, plus the sharp and very funny 'The Suit' with Kat Stewart, Colin Lane and Harvey Zielinski. Joining them is stunning hybrid LGBTQI animation ‘The Fling’, by Darwin born and raised filmmaker Jemma Cotter.⭐

We’re giving talented Australian filmmakers an amazing opportunity to grab a camera and create their own lighthearted, surprising and audacious Should've Gone to Specsavers TVC. It could kickstart your commercial career, nab you up to $70K in prize money and see you shine on the Flickerfest big screen next summer and across the country in 2027. Love making films and got a flair for comedy and a great idea, this one's for you!

Darwin friends, save the date! ✨ Flickerfest is heading back to the Deckchair Cinema for a fantastic night of Australian short films under the stars.
First up at 7:00pm, join us for the Best of Australian Shorts programme, featuring some of the standout films from this year's festival in Bondi. We're excited to share 'The Fling', a gorgeous and hilarious LGBTQI animation from Darwin-born filmmaker Jemma Cotter, alongside an incredible collection of award-winning gems and festival favourites from around the country.
Then at 9:10pm, settle in for our First Nations Spotlight Shorts programme, showcasing powerful and inspiring stories from some of the brightest First Nations filmmakers working today. Highlights include 'The Truth About The Telegraph', exploring the impact of the Overland Telegraph Line on Kaytetye and Warumungu peoples, and In celebration of 35 years of Flickerfest, we are thrilled to include 'Scar' – part love story, part ghost story filmed in the Tiwi Islands by Tiwi Director Tiffany Parker winner of best Emerging Talent at Flickerfest 2013, Tiffany will be joining us on the night.
Whether you come for one session or make a night of it and enjoy both programmes, it's the perfect excuse to gather your mates, grab something tasty and enjoy some of Australia's best short films in one of the country's most unique cinema settings.

Presented in partnership with Arakwal BOBBAC and iQ Inc, this special evening celebrates NAIDOC Week 2026 and this year's theme, '50 Years of Deadly', through seven powerful First Nations short films exploring culture, connection, resilience and community.
We're also delighted to welcome local filmmaker Dylan Nicholls, who will join us on the night to introduce his moving documentary 'Bringing His Spirit Home'.

❤️We’re thrilled to once again join Arakwal BOBBAC & iQ Inc for this annual NAIDOC Week screening, an evening of inspiring First Nations storytelling celebrating NAIDOC Week 2026 and this year’s theme ‘50 Years of Deadly’.
💛 This year’s First Nations Spotlight programme brings together a powerful selection of short films from Flickerfest, featuring stories that are moving, joyful, confronting and full of heart, showcasing some of the most exciting First Nations filmmakers working today.
🖤The programme features seven remarkable short films, including:
🎞 ‘Bringing His Spirit Home’ by Dylan Nicholls, a filmmaker from Kingscliff, whose moving journey follows Peter travelling to France to perform ceremony for his great-uncle, an Aboriginal WWI soldier, to finally bring his spirit home
🎞 ‘The Truth About The Telegraph’, a powerful reframing of colonial history and enduring connection to Country
🎞 ‘La Pa Legends: A First for Mardi Gras’, a vibrant celebration of La Perouse’s first Mardi Gras Parade
🎞 ‘Faceless’, a gripping drama of identity and belonging across three realities
🎞 ‘Second Chance’, a tender love story decades in the making
🎞 ‘The Secret’, a deeply personal and moving reflection from Lilla Berry
🎞 ‘Catchin’ Mumoo’, a warm and heartfelt family story

Get ready for 2 fabulous nights at the beautiful Peacock Theatre, Salamanca Arts Centre and enjoy a packed lineup of award winning outstanding short films from Australia and around the world.
🌍Friday 19 June, opens with the Best of International Shorts a mix of bold, award winning stories and standout filmmaking from across the globe including recent Oscar winner 'The Singers' alongside other big names, fresh voices and films that stay with you long after the credits roll.
