A wonderful report on Cinema Reborn 2026 by the ever enthusiatic Camille Scaysbrook..

“Once again, Cinema Reborn showed itself to be a world-class event and a highlight of the serious cinephile's year - every bit worthy of being counted among the world's great festivals alongside the venerable Festival Il Cinema Ritrovato at Bologna and UCLA's Festival of Preservation.”

The pursuit of happiness, the nature of cinematic artifice, and female emancipation were just a few of the themes that ran through my viewings at this year's Cinema Reborn festival of restored...

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Cinema Reborn 2026 screenings. We had record attendances in both Sydney and Melbourne. All up there were 4921 admissions in total, an increase of 18.6% on last year. Our box office was up by a similar amount.

The six most popular films across the two cities were HAPPINESS, THIEF, DAYS AND NIGHTS IN THE FOREST, THE HEIRESS, ONLY ANGELS HAVE WINGS and WHITE NIGHTS.

Thanks especially to our institutional supporters, the Italian Institute of Culture in Sydney and the Italian Cultural Institute Melbourne - IIC Melbourne, the Indian High Commission and Consulates, the Swami Vivekananda Institute and the Japan Foundation without whose help we would not have been able to screen a number of our key titles.

Enthusiastic support also came from the management and staff at the Ritz and The Lido in Melbourne. The Tamir family have been on our side since 2019. The team at Moving Story did wonderful work.

Beyond those who have worked on our behalf thanks to our audience. Many have been attending and working to support us from the start, some eight years ago. We hope that we’ll see you all again in years to come and you will continue to appreciate the opportunity to enter a real cinema and see great films as they were made to be viewed.

Just a single screening to go to complete Cinema Reborn 2026 at the Lido Cinemas We'll let you know the numbers we achieved at Lido Cinemas and the Ritz Cinemas on Thursday. In the meantime there is an encore screening in the Lido Cinemas beautiful Cinema One tomorrow at 11.00 am of the Martin and Lewis classic ARTISTS AND MODELS.(To say nothing of the brilliant Shirley MacLaine as the Bat Lady.)
If you would like some more background on this state of the art Vistavision restoration then head to the Cinema Reborn website where Eloise Ross writes about how "this film signifies the apex of cultural satire, physical performance, and gag sound design in a hyperactive comedy." You can find a link to session times and advance ticket sales but plenty of seats available at the door tomorrow Wednesday 20th at 11.00 am
