SYNOPSIS:
The scintillating feature debut of Mary Harron (American Psycho) and one of the most controversial independent films of the 1990s, I Shot Andy Warhol stars an electric Lili Taylor as Valerie Solanas, a militant feminist whose attempted murder of Andy Warhol brought instant fame to her radically anti-male SCUM Manifesto. Dropping out of grad school in the midsixties, the brilliant yet volatile Solanas survived in New York City as a destitute artist, s*x worker, and panhandler, soon striking up a friendship with Warhol superstar Candy Darling that brought her briefly into the orbit of the world’s premier pop artist. With vivid, hallucinatory attention to historical detail, Harron captures the explosive cross-pollination of New York’s political and artistic countercultures as well as the creativity, snobbery, and decadence at the heart of the legendary Factory. Anchored by pitch-perfect performances —and featuring a blistering score by John Cale as well as covers of sixties hits by some of the nineties’ most iconic bands (R.E.M., Wilco)—I Shot Andy Warhol is an incisive portrait of a rebel without an outlet and the soon-to-be-lost generation she came to define.

🛸 YOU CALLED ME YOUR ANGEL 🛸

Soon after the release of his newest smash hit I WANT YOUR S*X, Northwest Film Forum is excited to present two films by the great and dearly beloved Gregg Araki: MYSTERIOUS SKIN (newly restored!!) and his long-unavailable debut feature THREE BEWILDERED PEOPLE IN THE NIGHT! Youthful angst and turmoil are abound in both films, taking hard looks at what it takes to find and maintain love in our fu**ed up modern world, however that might look like. Between these two films and his newest film, you’ll get a wide survey of where Araki has come from and where he might be going next, though that’s always hard to predict 😉

🫖 ONCE YOU’RE MARRIED, IT’S TOO LATE TO UNDERSTAND 🫖

NEXT WEEKEND! Our seasonal series of films by Yasujio Ozu continues with EARLY SUMMER. Similar to a lot of Ozu’s post-war work, EARLY SUMMER is a gripping and emotional family drama that hones in on the conflict of difference between generations in a rapidly changing Japan, with gender politics and expectations sitting at the center of it all.

SYNOPSIS:
The biggest film of the decade is back on the big screen where it belongs! RRR is an exhilarating, action-packed spectacular mythologizing two real-life freedom fighters who helped lead India’s fight for independence from the British Raj, Komaram Bheem (N.T Rama Rao Jr., aka Jr NTR) and Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan). Set in the 1920s before their fight for India’s independence began, RRR imagines a fictional meeting between the two, set into motion when a young Gond girl is stolen from her village by British soldiers.

With staggeringly choreographed action sequences, an all-timer of a musical number, and a powerful story, RRR is pure big screen joy from start to finish. Audiences across the world have been won over, it’s a great big party, and you’re invited – come join!
