Today, we recognize Women’s Equality Day.

August 26 marks the certification of the 19th Amendment in 1920, a milestone in our nation’s history and an important reminder of the continued value of equality, representation, and opportunity.

For the American Legion Auxiliary, this day also connects to our roots as an organization founded and led by women dedicated to service, patriotism, and support for veterans, military families, and communities. Today, our membership has grown, but that legacy of leadership and service remains an important part of who we are.

We honor the women who have served our country in uniform, supported our military families, strengthened our communities, and helped carry forward the mission of service. Today, we celebrate their courage, leadership, and dedication, past and present.

🇺🇸 In Service, Not Self.

Today, we recognize Agent Orange Awareness Day. The American Legion Auxiliary Department of California honors Vietnam War veterans and all those affected by exposure to Agent Orange. This observance reminds us of the lasting health impacts many veterans and their families continue to face because of their service. We remember those we have lost, support those still living with the effects, and stand with veterans seeking care, recognition, and assistance.

Agent Orange Awareness Day is also a reminder that the effects of war do not always end when service members return home. Many veterans, their children, and their families have carried the impact for decades. Today, we encourage continued awareness, compassion, and advocacy for those affected.

Today, the American Legion Auxiliary Department of California proudly celebrates the birthday of the United States Coast Guard.

Founded on August 4, 1790, the Coast Guard has served our nation for 236 years with courage, dedication, and honor. As one of our nation’s six armed forces, the Coast Guard protects the public, safeguards our waterways, supports national security, and carries out lifesaving missions at sea.

We thank the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard, past and present, for their faithful service to our country.

Here is a slightly shorter version too:

Happy Birthday to the U.S. Coast Guard!

Today, we honor 236 years of service, safety, and security at sea. Since 1790, the Coast Guard has protected our nation, aided those in distress, enforced maritime laws, and served with unwavering dedication.

The American Legion Auxiliary Department of California proudly thanks all Coast Guard members, past and present, for their service.
