CHALLENGERS (2024)

Thurs, 7/16, murder and mass transportation combine as Clio's Scroll Productions celebrate's Hitchcock in July with one of his more diabolical thrillers of chance, STRANGERS ON A TRAIN.

A chance encounter between tennis champion Guy (Farley Granger) and psychopath Bruno (Robert Walker) on a train triggers an unstoppable race toward double murder.

Hitchcock’s classic thriller is a finely-tuned engine of suspense, taking barely a breath as it steams through a spine-tingling story of fate, coincidence, guilt and psychopathology – favorite themes of noir writer Patricia Highsmith, whose novel was adapted by the great Raymond Chandler.

FIRST DATE...

Thurs, 7/16, Classic Hollywood gets a little murderous as ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOODLAND celebrates their annual tradition of Hitchcock in July with a chance meeting unfolding into a perfect engine for suspense with STRANGERS ON A TRAIN.

When two men casually discuss “swapping murders,” one takes the idea deadly seriously. Featuring some of Hitchcock’s most notable set pieces - including the legendary carousel climax - the film is a chilling study of doubles, guilt, and the terrifying ease with which violence can be set in motion.

FREE SCREENING JULY 12TH!

Next Sunday, July 12th join Peaceworks KC, No Nukes KC, and other local organizers in a free screening of the 2025 documentary To Use a Mountain. In the film, six rural American communities are marked as candidates for an unthinkable fate: their land, a burial ground for 77,000 tons of nuclear waste. Against the impassive logic of government analysis and archives, a people’s history of resistance and stewardship emerges through a visceral journey across the landscapes, ecologies, and personal histories of the candidate sites.

Stick around after the film for a Q&A with the director, Casey Carter! Secure your spot online at the link in our bio or get your free ticket whenever our box office is open.

“I don't wanna quit, I just wanna be in control of it.”

Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”, THE INVISIBLE MAN) gives 1000% as a fictionalized version of Courtney Love in Alex Ross Perry’s chaotic and cathartic HER SMELL. Becky Something is a volatile, narcissistic and self-destructive punk superstar who once filled arenas with her grungy all-female trio Something She. Now she plays smaller venues while grappling with motherhood, exhausted bandmates, nervous record company executives and a new generation of rising talent eager to usurp her stardom. With original music written by Alicia Bognanno from the rock band Bully sung by Elizabeth Moss herself!

Screening as part of our Get Punk’d series this Thursday, July 9th at 7pm! Get tickets at straycatfilmcenter.com or at the link in our bio.
