Stray Cat Film Center Established in 2018, Stray Cat Film Center is Kansas City's only non-profit microcinema! Stray Cat Film Center is located in Kansas City, MO since August 2018.

We are a fantastically funky DIY micro-cinema that makes provocative cinema accessible to underserved audiences in the Kansas City area. The theater hosts screenings of lost, forgotten or disenfranchised films, host educational programs and acts a screening room for prospective filmmakers. Next Friday and Saturday! Don't miss Punishment Park - the latest in our Doc Turtleneck series.

"At another time, the honorable thing or the right thing to do might be to be a policeman or to be President. Right now, I think the honorable thing to do is to be a criminal."

1970 - using the McCarran Act, Nixon's administration is cracking down on subversive elements compromising American security. Rounding the dissidents into campus, the traitors, activists, and communist sympathizers are given a choice; long prison sentences or a race in a "punishment park". Successfully travel 50 miles across the desert while being hunted by police, and you'll be free to go.

Two camera crews from Europe receive permission to film a punishment park. While Group 638, is facing examination from the tribunal, Group 637 is already on their way. Who will survive?

We’re proud to be hosting BLEAK WEAK during the second week of June and showing two 16mm prints, Ikiru on the 7th and The Stone Wedding on the 13th!

We’re also showing a free screening of Le****ns on TV presented by The Finding Aid, the classic q***r coded noir Gilda, 1980s punk rock London le****ns in Rebel D***s, and rodeo q***rs in National Anthem! Happy Pride Month!

THIS MONTH: Commissioned by the San Francisco International Film Festival in 2017, maverick Winnipeg filmmaker Guy Maddin (MY WINNIPEG, THE SADDEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD) along with found footage artists Glen & Evan Johnson unleashed THE GREEN FOG, a remake of VERTIGO: but instead of shooting something new, they scoured footage of every San Francisco movie EXCEPT Alfred’s Hitchcock’s 1958 masterpiece to build a found footage mixtape/remake! Everything is here: TV shows, horror, erotic thrillers, Chuck Norris, double Michael Douglas, and of course N*SYNC to create a funny, critical, truly one of kind cinema experience.

They are this Thursday 5/28, as they continue our Year of Monsters by setting sail in search of the beasts of the sea. What movie are we showing? That's a surprise, but we'll give you a few hints:

This Weds 5/27 @ 7pm, Eastern Bloc Party vol IV concludes its journey through Czech fantasy of the Prague Spring with another movie entering Stray Cat's we've-actually-played-this-more-than-once club, Vojtěch Jasný's political fairytale THE CASSANDRA CAT.

When a traveling circus and its magical feline mascot arrive in a provincial Czech town, and expose the virtues, vices and desires of its unruly inhabitants. The adults in charge seek to kidnap this cat, sparking a rebellion from the local children that love. that. fu***ng. cat.

Banned not long after the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 for being regarded as an unacceptable and subversive critique of Communist society, THE CASSANDRA CAT stills lives as a colorful, surreal satire, and modern fairy tale.

After a longer than expected hiatus, Andrew's Video Void returns to Stray Cat Saturday, 5/30 with a special FREE video Dim Sum for all lovers of the archival, found footage, and just plain weird.

WHO STOLE BUZZY?

Weds 6/3, Stray Cat is proud to present the KC Premier of the new documentary about the exploration and exploitation of abandoned space with STOLEN KINGDOM.

A documentary delving into the history of mischief, scandal, and theft at Walt Disney World, ultimately leading to the theft of an animatronic valued at nearly half a million dollars. What begins as a tale of friendship and passion ends with one lingering question: Who stole Buzzy? Combining elements of subculture, exploration, and true crime, STOLEN KINGDOM unfolds a one of kind story about abandoned spaces.
