Stray Cat Film Center Established in 2018, Stray Cat Film Center is Kansas City's only non-profit microcinema! Stray Cat Film Center is located in Kansas City, MO since August 2018.

We are a fantastically funky DIY micro-cinema that makes provocative cinema accessible to underserved audiences in the Kansas City area. The theater hosts screenings of lost, forgotten or disenfranchised films, host educational programs and acts a screening room for prospective filmmakers. SEPTEMBER AT STRAY CAT 🇲🇽✨✍️📼

This month’s spotlight is our new Mexican Gothic series programmed by our friend Orrin Grey! Check out the strangest, eeriest, and most chilling horror flicks from south of the border every Wednesday in Sept!

Along with our monthly Analog Sunday (NEAR DEATH) Get Punk’d (I SHOT ANDY WARHOL), Andrew’s Video Void, Horror Pod Class, and the Time Image series (SUPPORT THE GIRLS) we’re celebrating the 25th anniversary of Mariah Carey’s GLITTER.

Plus, another Stray Cat Yard sale! VHS tapes, vintage clothes, and more goodies that we want YOU to take off our hands. Come get our stuff!

Fu**ed Up Fairy Tales may be ending tonight. But next month, guest programmer Orrin Grey and the Stray Cat Film Center team to celebrate Mexican Independence by bringing you some of the strangest, eeriest, and most chilling horror flicks from south of the border with MEXICAN GOTHIC. WIth Haunted monasteries, mad doctors, witches, ghosts, mummies - MEXICAN GOTHIC traces how Mexico built its own language of fear: the colonial cloister, the folk legend, the supernatural melodrama, and psychological terror.

Weds, 8/26, Fu**ed Up Fairy Tales II comes to a bloody climax as we screen Emilie Blichfeldt’s memorably nasty take on Cinderella: THE UGLY STEPSISTER.

When her mother marries a wealthy landowner, young Elvira’s hopes of marrying the region’s handsome prince feel closer than ever. Unfortunately, she can’t measure up to the beauty of her effortlessly hot stepsister. How far will she go to catch the prince’s eye? Blichfeldt tackles fairy tale tropes and beauty standards in a movie that dares to ask “What if Coralie Fargeat made The Other Bennet Sister?”

THIS MONTH: We're looking back at David Cronenberg's forays in Television two pieces his forays in to the small screen: a pre-fame short from Canadian TV called Secret Weapons. and his post-Fly contribution to FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE SERIES with the episode Faith Healer. Does F13:TS have anyhting to do Jason Vorhees? No, but that doesn’t stop Cronenberg from making the gooey, slimey entry in body horror TV as a disease eating people away from the inside, and how desperate and unhinged it makes them.

PLUS: Ex-Girls, Scottish pride, Who pooped the bed, and a preshow featuring a hot-off the press digitization!

COLDER THAN ICE, HER KISS PIERCES THE HEART.

Weds, 8/19 @ 7pm, FU**ED UP FAIRYTALES CONTINUES with Lucile Hadžihalilović's spellbinding blend of David and New French Extremity, THE ICE TOWER.

In this reworking of Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen, Jeanne, a 15-year-old orphan, witnesses the shoot for a film adaptation of the fairy tale The Snow Queen, and she becomes fascinated by its star, Cristina, an actress who is just as mysterious and alluring as the Queen she is playing. As fantasy and reality blur together, can these women figure out who they are to each other before disaster strikes?
