Our mission is to enrich the artistic, social, and political life of our community through film. In addition to daily screenings of first run independent and art films, we enhance the viewing experience with educational opportunities such as our cinema literacy classes and pre- and post-film discussions led by members of Ithaca’s impressive academic, cultural, and human services communities. We sh

ow films that have artistic merit and which raise a broad range of issues, including those featured in the annual Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival. Cinemapolis has also made a strong commitment to being the community's local cinema, offering a venue for local filmmakers. Other community opportunities include those for children and high school students, allowing them to see quality films appropriate for their stage of development.

Hadestown: The Musical, opens on the big screen at Cinemapolis, this Thursday 7/23!!

The live theater capture of the hit musical Hadestown, which won eight Tony Awards in 2019 including Best Musical and the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, featuring the five original principals of the Broadway company. The genre-defying new musical blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz to reimagine a sweeping ancient tale.
Following two intertwining love stories - that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone - Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back.

Buena Vista Social Club continues the 40th Anniversary screenings on Tuesday 7/21 at 5:45 & 8:10!!

Buena Vista Social Club is a documentary film directed by Wim Wenders about the music of Cuba, featuring the musicians who recorded the 1997 album Buena Vista Social Club.

The film documents how long-time friend of Wenders, Ry Cooder (who had brought together the group of legendary Cuban musicians who recorded the album), returned to Havana in early 1998 to record a new album by singer Ibrahim Ferrer.

It includes concert performances by the group's full line-up: in April 1998 in Amsterdam (two nights at the Royal Theater Carré) and the 1st of July 1998 in the United States (at the Carnegie Hall, New York City).

The Odyssey opens TODAY, Thursday 7/16 at Cinemapolis!!

The Odyssey is a 2026 epic fantasy action film written and directed by Christopher Nolan. An adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek epic the Odyssey, the film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the Greek king of Ithaca, and chronicles his long and perilous journey home after the Trojan War and his encounters with mythical beings as he attempts to reunite with his wife, Penelope, portrayed by Anne Hathaway. The ensemble cast includes Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Samantha Morton, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron.

Maddie's Secret is a 2025 American satirical comedy film written, directed, and produced by John Early in his directorial debut. It stars Early, Kate Berlant, Eric Rahill, Kristen Johnston, Claudia O'Doherty, Conner O'Malley, Vanessa Bayer, and Chris Bauer.

Madison "Maddie" Ralph works as a dishwasher at Gourmaybe, a Los Angeles test kitchen that produces short-form content, though she yearns to be a chef. One evening, Maddie's husband Jake films her preparing one of her vegetarian recipes and posts it on TikTok, where it goes viral overnight.

Our 40th Anniversary Screenings continue movies from the 90's TODAY Tuesday 7/14 at 5:20 & 8:30, with Pulp Fiction!!

Pulp Fiction is a 1994 American crime film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino from a story he conceived with Roger Avary. It tells four intertwining tales of crime and violence in Los Angeles. The film stars John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Tim Roth, Ving Rhames, and Uma Thurman. The title refers to the pulp magazines and hardboiled crime novels popular during the mid-twentieth century, known for their graphic violence and punchy dialogue.
