Aurora Picture Show

Aurora Picture Show is a Houston-based organization dedicated to expanding the cinematic experience and promoting the appreciation of moving image art.

Aurora presents film screenings, live cinema performances, installations, and youth workshops. Aurora has distinguished itself as a home for vanguard work that falls outside of conventional moviemaking and traditionally has fewer exhibition outlets. Our screenings are known for being memorable and not-to-be-missed as they are not often repeated and are difficult to duplicate. We hope that you will consider becoming a member and joining us for a screening soon!

Thanks to all artists, organizers, and audience who were a part of a special night at Aurora on Sunday, featuring the Houston premiere of Heiny Srour's 1984 film Leila and the Wolves as well as performances, open discussion, and reception. Good, important, and complex reverberations! We're very happy to have collaborated with HTX Made Presents, Zaytounat, the Falasteen Arts Festival and Jackson Allers/Ice House Radio.

Our summer youth filmmaking camps for ages 7-15 concluded last week, and tomorrow the kids' films hit the big screen! Join us Saturday afternoon (Aug. 16, 1pm) for a special premiere screening at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston's Brown Auditorium. Free admission. Thanks to all of the 2025 camp participants, to our stellar teachers and assistants, and to The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and Phoenicia Specialty Foods for supporting Aurora's youth programs!!

We had great Extremely Shorts Film Festival screenings at Aurora this weekend! And we were very happy to have filmmakers Marcel Omen, Carmen Reeves, Hanna Faridi, Yijun Huang, David Klos, Abdurrahman Danquah, and Anthony Lopez in attendance! Many thanks to all of the featured artists, enthusiastic audiences, guest juror Ekrem Serdar, DJ Jackson Allers, and sponsors Saint Arnold Brewery and Glasstire.
The festival program is now available to stream via our website (through the end of Friday), and the Juror and Audience Choice awards will be announced June 9.
