14 Pews is a mission-driven 501[c]3 nonprofit microcinema, which is passionate about enriching lives through the positive, transformational power of the visual arts. It was founded in 2010 by Houston filmmaker, Cressandra Thibodeaux. It is housed in a 1924 wooden church which was converted into an art house. The first 14 Pews event was in September 2010. In March 2011, 14 Pews received its nonprof

it status and is currently a member of the Houston Arts Alliance. Our programs encourage dialogue after each cultural event because we want to hear from all the voices of Houston.

14 Pews is also available as a rental venue for parties concerts, or private film screenings! In addition to the theater, we also have a gorgeous 'backyard' that's perfect for your next outdoor event!

14 Pews first began its Artist-in-Residency Program in 2011 to promote & encourage artists by giving them full use of the theater to create new works for an entire year. 14 Pews provides the space; a stipend from the box office income, & marketing. Since 2011, 14 Pews has supported, & promoted 11 talented artists. From 2011-2014 14 Pews has had 4 gifted artists in residence. The 2011 artist-in-residence, performance artist Emily Sloan, created 4 site-specific performances. In 2012, visual artist & electronic musician Sandy Ewen, created 3 concerts & 2 art shows. In 2013, it was playwright Elizabeth Keel, who created a full-length site-specific play, performed 2 one-acts, & had a reading of her novel. In 2014, we had Two Star Symphony (8 musicians & composers), who created a live original score to the classic film, "Girl Shy" & several original musical works. In June 2012, 14 Pews launched its summer Film Academy to at-risk students who were economically disadvantaged at Reagan High School. The goal of the Film Academy is to keep unsupervised "latch-key" students engaged in positive and creative activities that would be beneficial to the students and their community. Cressandra Thibodeaux plus 11 guest lecturers taught the 3-week workshop. The class culminated in a Student Film Festival, which was opened to the general public. Since 2010, 14 Pews has:
-- Screened over 400 Independent films, documentaries, narrative, experimental and short films.

-- Created, curated, & hosted many film festivals: "It Gets Better" Film Festival, 14 Pews Film Academy Film Festival, H-Town Multicultural Film Festival, The Bayou City Music & Film Festival, Bayou City Food & Film Festival.

-- Created a weekly German Film Series co-sponsored with the German Consulate and The Goethe-Institut. We look forward to serving our community for many more years to come.

My web guy shut down my www.14pews.com in late October because he said it could no longer be supported and promised to rebuild a new one on WIX which I then paid for, but TODAY he told me it was too difficult. So now I have lost 14 years of programming and have no website and feeling sick to my stomach.

Hello from Isle de Jean Charles, LA! I hope you're all doing well and enjoying the start of summer. I'd like to invite you to my Zoom presentation for my latest photo series, "DOUBLE TAKE." The presentation will be held online tomorrow, Sunday, June 30th, at 7 PM.

During this event, I will also share details about my ongoing long-term project, "NATIVE CLIMATE SURVIVORS," which will be showcased at the Wetlands Museum in June 2026. This visual arts project focuses on a Native group of climate refugees from Isle de Jean Charles, LA, who were relocated by the government to Gray, LA, a small town near Thibodaux.

Tomorrow's online event is free and open to the public. This cultural event is funded in part by the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance. I am also excited to announce I have been made an Ambassador of Fujifilm starting in mid-August. As an Ambassador, I will continue to be photographing my Climate Refugee series and my Tribal Elders series in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. I hope to see you tomorrow via Zoom!

I had to reschedule my Photography Presentation of double exposure portraits of my mother and screening of my two documentaries. The NEW date is May 29th @ 7PM @ 14 Pews. Hope to see you here. It's been bittersweet but I sold 800 Aurora Street, the home of 14 Pews and went out for celebratory drinks with my friend Alfred Cervantes, the Houston Film Commissioner who is the one who suggested I purchase 800 Aurora Street in the first place. It's been a great 14 years in this venue. The new owner, who is a creative spirit and a friend is allowing me to still have 14 Pews events in the venue for the next two years -- so I'm very grateful for that.

I'm thrilled to be offered a solo photography show at the Wetlands Museum in Thibodaux, Louisiana - please help me raise the money to create a museum worthy show. I'm raising 15k to cover printing costs and 3 more photography & video trips to the Isle de Jean Charles, Schriever and Thibodaux, Louisiana. Check out all the fundraising perks! And through a combination of photography and some videography, my project aims to highlight the experiences and histories of both the individuals who migrated to the New Isle and those who chose to remain on Isle de Jean Charles.
