Ken Russell’s 4K restoration, director's cut of THE DEVILS is premiering at for Halloweekend! 🦇🎃🎬🩸 There are still tix left for the 3:30PM and 8:45PM screenings on 10/31—grab them while you still can! 🎟️

Ken Russell’s 1971 "The Devils" remains one of cinema’s most transgressive and incendiary provocations, a feverish account of the Loudun possessions witchcraft trial in 17th-century France. Oliver Reed stars as Urbain Grandier, a wildly charismatic libertine priest who defies Cardinal Richelieu’s consolidation of power. Vanessa Redgrave’s Sister Jeanne is a sexually repressed, hunchbacked Abbess obsessed with Grandier with an intensity that ignites accusations of demonic possession among her convent’s nuns. Already a target for reprisals due to his political resistance, Grandier’s promiscuity eventually lands him on the wrong side of a powerful family.

Their children bond despite their different education. When adolescent Elia Gheorghiu shows up at school with some bruises on her body, the community asks itself if the traditional education that the Gheorghiu children get from their parents might have anything to do with it.

A retired criminal profiler (William Petersen) reluctantly returns to the FBI to help track down a serial killer of families and is forced to consult an expert—the imprisoned Dr. Hannibal Lecktor (Brian Cox in a subtly chilling performance). The third feature written and directed by Michael Mann is a gripping adaptation of the first of Thomas Harris’s four novels featuring the iconic murderer Lecktor, and benefits from the filmmaker’s typically striking visuals as well as a top-notch supporting cast, including Tom Noonan as the hunted killer and three-time Oscar nominee Joan Allen as his blind love interest.

John Turturro in THE ONLY LIVING PICKPOCKET IN NEW YORK 🎬🍿 Premiering at on Friday, November 6. 🎟️ Tix out now in the 🔗🔝

Anchored by an all-too-rare lead performance from John Turturro, the latest from writer-director Noah Segan combines low-key crime drama with a meditation on changing times. Buoyed by a stellar supporting cast that features Turturro’s fellow independent film legends Steve Buscemi and Giancarlo Esposito—not to mention Canada’s own Tatiana Maslany—"The Only Living Pickpocket in New York" harkens back to the character-driven films of 1970s New Hollywood, while showcasing the titular metropolis in all its alluring complexity.

A craftsman pickpocket from the old school, Harry (Turturro) adheres to a routine, operates alone, and doesn’t own a smartphone. He works mainly on public transport, sells his spoils to his pawnbroker pal Ben (Buscemi), and goes home to his Bronx apartment every night to look after his ailing spouse. But hubris gets the best of Harry: he winds up stealing from Dylan (Will Price), the insufferable scion of a connected crime family, and must traverse the city in an attempt to crawl out of a potentially deadly bind before the day is through.

Independent local ✨NOT-for-profit✨ cinema forever ❤️‍🔥🎬 The Nightlight Cinema appreciates all of our patrons and members very much. Your support keeps our doors open and cinema thriving in Akron, OH (and beyond).

As we move into Oscar-contender season, so many amazing films are coming our way. This is always exciting for us, but behind the curtains, sometimes it is tricky to decide what to play and when—especially when larger chain theaters around us have more flexibility and options than us.

Because we are an intimate theater with only two screens, this means we don't always get to show movies right when they come out on their premiere date. Sometimes we have to wait one week, two weeks, or even a couple of months before we can bring it to our screen.

We can't always promise an immediate turnover, but we can promise top tier programming and a kind, energized, and community-oriented viewing experience. Every person who walks through our doors matters and is a reminder of why what we do is important.
