The Indian Cultural Centre was established in Colombo in 1998, with the aim of
building bridges of cultural exchange and interaction between India & Sri Lanka. Over the years, the Indian Cultural Centre has firmly established itself on the Sri
Lankan cultural scene and earned a reputation for excellence through its wide ranging multi-faceted activities. The Centre offers classes in Bharatha Naty

am, Kathak, Hindustani & Carnatic Vocal Music, Violin, Sitar, Tabla, Hindi and Yoga. For conducting these classes, the Centre draws on a talented and committed
group of Sri Lankan teachers. Over time, the Centre has gained tremendous
popularity with nearly 1500 students enrolled in the various classes conducted at
the Centre. The Centre is also active in organizing performances by Indian and Sri Lankan
artistes, lectures/lecture-demonstrations, workshops exhibitions etc. Over the
last twelve years the Centre has organized performances by several well known
artistes from India and Sri Lanka. The Centre also screens 4-5 Indian films and documentaries every month. The Centre also maintains a well equipped library and reading room with a large
collection of books, newspapers, periodicals, video-cassettes and CD ROMs. The library is open to the public Monday to Saturday, except Wednesdays. The reading room, which is open to the public Monday to Saturday has Indian
and Sri Lankan newspapers (Sinhala, Tamil and English) and Indian periodicals,
magazines and journals in English and Indian languages (Malayalam, Urudu,
Hindi, Telugu and Tamil). Conceiving as a cultural hub of Colombo, Indian Cultural Centre is presently in a

In commemoration of the 165th Birth Anniversary of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, a floral tribute and garlanding ceremony of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s bust was organized by the Centre for Contemporary Indian Studies in collaboration with the Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Commission of India, Colombo, on 11th May 2026 at the Main Library of the University of Colombo.

The event was held under the distinguished patronage of H.E.Santosh Jha, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, and Professor Indiaka Mahesh Karunathilaka, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo. Distinguished invitees and guests also participated in the ceremony, paying tribute to the timeless legacy of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.

Echoes of Rabindranath Tagore filled the halls of ICCR Sri Lanka yesterday as we celebrated Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s 165th Birth Anniversary.

The evening came alive with enchanting performances of Rabindra Sangeet by Asith Attapattu and his ensemble, while Mrs. Jayanti Ray beautifully showcased Tagore’s timeless vision through her graceful presentation.

The celebration was a heartfelt tribute to the legendary poet, philosopher, and Nobel Laureate whose works continue to inspire generations across the world with messages of humanity, peace, and universal harmony.

“ A Peaceful Mother Peaceful World - Yoga for Inner Strenth"
Organized by AUM Kriya Babaji Yoga Aranyam , The Brahma Kumaris Rajayoga Centre Sri Lanka in collaboration with Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre as part of International Day of Yoga 2026 on 10th May 2026

40 mothers participated in the program. The event began with welcoming and honoring the mothers with Tilak and a special Mother’s Day badge. This was followed by an ice-breaking session.

The Aum Kriya Babaji Organization conducted breathing exercises and asanas for the participants. Later, a talk on the topic of spirituality and well-being was delivered by the Brahma Kumaris Raja Yoga Center, followed by a creative meditation session.

The program concluded with Toli, blessings, gifts, and refreshments for all the participants.
