✹ Eidolon Club Vol. 13 – 5 Broken Cameras ✹

A következő öt hónapban az Eidolon Centre for Everyday Photography havi vetítéssorozatot rendez a budapesti Cirko-Gejzír Moziban, ami Magyarországon ritkán vagy egyáltalán nem vetített filmeket mutat be. A program során műsorra kerülő filmalkotások a hétköznapi kamerahasználatot és képalkotási gyakorlatokat, valamint a fotografikus médiumokhoz fűződő mindennapi személyes és politikai viszonyainkat vizsgálják.
Minden filmet háromszor vetítünk egy hónapon belül, hogy mindenki megtalálhassa a számára legmegfelelőbb időpontot.
A sorozat első darabja a palesztin Emad Burnat és az izraeli Guy Davidi által közösen rendezett ‘5 Broken Cameras’ című 2011-es dokumentumfilm. Az öt, katonák lövései által összetört kamera köré szerveződő film Burnat történetét meséli el, aki 2005-ben vásárolta meg első kameráját, hogy dokumentálja fia születését. Idővel azonban a pusztítás és az elnyomás csendes krónikásává vált, felvételein keresztül falujának az izraeli hadsereggel szemben folytatott erőszakmentes ellenállását ismerhette meg a világ.
A film számos nemzetközi elismerésben részesült: díjat nyert a 2012-es Sundance Filmfesztiválon, elnyerte a legjobb dokumentumfilmnek járó díjat a 2012-es Jereváni Nemzetközi Filmfesztiválon, megkapta a 2013-as International Emmy-díjat dokumentumfilm kategóriában, és ugyanebben az évben legjobb dokumentumfilm kategóriában jelölték Oscarra. Mindemellett 2012-ben a 9. Verzió Filmfesztiválon elnyerte a Legjobb emberi jogi dokumentumfilm díját és a Közönségdíjat is.
A filmet angol és magyar felirattal vetítjük, három alkalommal: május 13-án, 24-én és 28-án, 18 óra 30 perckor. A vetítéseket megelőzően az Eidolon Journal egyik szerzőjének rövid videóesszéje lesz látható, amely a film tágabb kontextusát mutatja be.

In the next five months, Eidolon Centre for Everyday Photography will present a monthly film series at Cirko-Gejzír Cinema in Budapest, featuring works that have rarely, or never, been screened in Hungary. Each film examines everyday camera use, image-making practices, and the relationships people maintain with lens-based media across the mundane, the personal, and the political.
Every film screens three times a month – find the date that suits you.
The first film is ‘5 Broken Cameras’, a documentary co-directed by Palestinian filmmaker Emad Burnat and Israeli filmmaker Guy Davidi. Structured around five broken cameras, the film tells the story of Burnat, a farmer from the Palestinian village of Bil’in, a village that became known for its nonviolent resistance after the Israeli army encroached on its land to expand nearby settlements. Burnat bought his first camera in 2005 to document the birth of his fourth son. Over time, however, he became a quiet archivist of intensifying destruction and oppression.
The film received numerous international accolades: it won an award at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, the Golden Apricot for Best Documentary at the 2012 Yerevan International Film Festival, the 2013 International Emmy Award for Documentary, and was nominated for the 2013 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. Additionally, in 2012, it won the Best Human Rights Documentary award and the Audience Award at the 9th Verzió Film Festival, Budapest.
The film will be screened three times – on 13, 24, and 28 May at 18:30 – with English and Hungarian subtitles. Before the screening, a short video essay by one of the authors of Eidolon Journal will be shown, contextualising the film.
