Can you believe we’re already halfway through August?! 😱

There are still a few weeks left before the kids head back to school in September, so if you’re running out of ideas, here are some brilliant things to do across the North West! 🌈👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

📍 GREATER MANCHESTER

🔬 Science and Industry Museum – A great family day out with plenty to explore.

🦖 Manchester Museum – Dinosaurs, animals, ancient Egypt and lots more – perfect for a lower-cost day out.

🌳 Heaton Park – Pack a picnic, take a football and enjoy one of the biggest parks in the North West.

🧱 LEGOLAND Discovery Centre – LEGO rides, building challenges and plenty of indoor fun.

🐠 SEA LIFE Manchester – Sharks, turtles, rays and an underwater adventure.

⚽ National Football Museum – A great choice for football-mad youngsters.

🎡 Trafford Centre Summer Fair – Fairground rides, a beach and splash pool – running until 30 August!

🎭 The Jungle Book – Bolton – A family musical running 15–23 August.

🌳 RHS Garden Bridgewater – Summer outdoor adventures, crafts, storytelling and den building.

📍 LIVERPOOL & MERSEYSIDE

🧪 Eureka! Science + Discovery – Hands-on science and discovery, with its summer programme running until 30 August.

🏖️ Beach Fest at Liverpool ONE – Summer fun at Chavasse Park until 31 August.

🎹 Tickle the Ivories – Liverpool ONE’s piano festival continues throughout the summer.

🕵️ Minton Tile Trail – Explore Liverpool while completing a city-wide trail, running until 2 September.

🌳 Croxteth Hall And Country Park – Take a picnic and spend the day exploring the park.

🌊 New Brighton – Beach, arcades, ice cream and a walk along the promenade.

🌲 Formby Beach & Pinewoods – A brilliant family walk with sand dunes, woodland and the chance to spot red squirrels.

🎢 Blackpool Pleasure Beach – A classic summer day out for thrill seekers!

✨ Blackpool seafront – Beach, arcades, piers, fish & chips and plenty to keep everyone entertained.

🌳 Williamson Park, Lancaster – Beautiful views, walks, play areas and plenty of space for a picnic.

🏰 Lancaster Castle – Add a little history to your summer adventures.

🌊 Morecambe – Enjoy the promenade, beach, playgrounds and an ice cream overlooking Morecambe Bay.

🐘 Chester Zoo – Make a full day of seeing some incredible animals.

🌲 Delamere Forest – Walking, cycling, picnics and outdoor adventures.

🏰 Beeston Castle – Explore the ruins and enjoy some fantastic countryside views.

🌿 Tatton Park – Gardens, parkland, farm and lots of space for the kids to explore.

☀️💛 HELLO SUNSHINE! 💛☀️

The beautiful weather is here, so let’s make the most of those sunny days, lighter evenings and summer memories! 🌻😎

Whether you’re heading to the park, enjoying a family day out, having a picnic or simply relaxing in the garden, there are lots of ways to enjoy the sunshine while keeping happy, healthy and safe.

💦 Keep refreshed – have plenty of cool drinks throughout the day and take a water bottle with you when heading out.

🧴 Sun cream at the ready! – protect your skin with a good SPF and remember to reapply throughout the day.

🧢 Hats on & shades out! – a sun hat, sunglasses and lightweight clothing will help keep everyone comfortable.

🌳 Enjoy some shade – especially during the hottest part of the day. It’s the perfect excuse to find a shady spot, relax and enjoy an ice lolly! 🍦

🏡 Keep things cool at home – close curtains or blinds when the sunshine is at its strongest and let the cooler evening air in later.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Look out for each other – check in with family, friends, neighbours and anyone who might appreciate a little extra support during the warmer weather.

🐶 Remember our four-legged friends too! Keep plenty of fresh water available, provide a shady place to relax and save walks for the cooler parts of the day. 🐾

🌞 Most importantly, enjoy the summer!

🌒☀️ SOLAR ECLIPSE TONIGHT – WEDNESDAY 12 AUGUST 2026 ☀️🌒

Tonight, people across the North West of England will have the opportunity to witness a spectacular partial solar eclipse, with more than 90% of the Sun expected to be obscured at its peak! 🌙✨

⏰ Approximate times for the North West:

🌒 Eclipse begins: 6:13pm
🌑 Maximum eclipse: 7:10pm
🌒 Eclipse ends: around 8:03–8:04pm

For those around Greater Manchester and Liverpool, approximately 91–92% of the Sun will be obscured at maximum – so it could be quite a sight if the skies are clear!

⚠️ PLEASE VIEW THE ECLIPSE SAFELY

👀 Never look directly at the Sun, even when most of it is covered by the Moon.

🕶️ Normal sunglasses are NOT safe. Only use genuine solar eclipse glasses designed specifically for viewing the Sun.

📱📷 Do not look at the Sun through cameras, phones, binoculars or telescopes unless they are fitted with an appropriate solar filter.

🌥️ Cloud cover does not make it safe to look directly at the Sun.

👧🧒 Please closely supervise children and young people who are watching and make sure they understand the importance of protecting their eyes.

📦 If you don’t have eclipse glasses, an indirect viewing method such as a pinhole projector is a great and safer way to experience the event.

🌅 For the best chance of seeing it, try to find somewhere with a clear view towards the western sky.

✨ Enjoy this rare astronomical event, make some memories and, most importantly, keep those eyes safe! ✨

🌞✈️ Holiday memories made!

Some of our incredible young people have recently enjoyed a well-deserved holiday to Lanzarote, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Experiences like these are about so much more than a holiday. They provide opportunities to build confidence, develop independence, try new things, and simply enjoy being young.

We're so proud to see our young people embracing new experiences, making the most of every opportunity, and returning home with smiles, stories, and unforgettable memories. 💙

🏁 What a fantastic day! 🏁

Our young people had an amazing time go-karting this weekend, and it was brilliant to see so many smiles, laughter and a little bit of friendly competition!

The feedback from the day was incredibly positive. The young people told us how much they enjoyed trying something new, spending quality time with staff, and sharing the experience with their peers.

Activities like these are about so much more than just having fun. They help build confidence, strengthen relationships, create lasting memories, and support positive wellbeing.

A huge thank you to our fantastic team for making the day such a success. Your encouragement, care and commitment make opportunities like this possible, and it's wonderful to see the difference they make.
