New Announcement from 88 Films
Shaw Brothers studio made the biggest movies in Hong Kong – and this box-set gathers three of their finest.
Vengeance is every bit as blood-soaked as you'd expect from master director Chang Cheh (Heroes Two), as superstar David Chiang (Shaolin Mantis) battles to take down the snakes who killed his brother.
Chiang returns as one of The Deadly Duo alongside the legendary Ti Lung (The Kung Fu Instructor); they're patriotic rebels struggling to free their prince from the clutches of the evil invaders.
Finally, the eye-popping extravaganza of Holy Flame of the Martial Arts World sets good wizards against wicked sorcerers in a crazy epic battle – and no one did over-the-top movie magic better than Shaw Brothers.
Three films, three classics and three essential additions to any kung fu collection.
Holy Flame of the Martial World
The sort of film that could only be made in Hong Kong! Here’s a crazy tale of super-human warriors doing battle with mystical all-powerful sorcerers. 18 years ago, those wizards killed a couple for their martial arts secrets. Now that couple's son – and the master who's taught him his magical kung fu – must confront them and put an end to their evil once and for all.
Not as well-known as Zu Warriors From The Magic Mountain or A Chinese Ghost Story, but every bit as bonkers, Holy Flame of the Martial World features flying swords, corpses doing kung fu and some of the most outrageous wirework that you ever did see. 88 Films are proud to present this preposterously entertaining film, beautifully restored and available on Blu-ray®, at long, long last.
The Deadly Duo
Invaders have swept into China, and they've taken the rightful ruler hostage, holding him in an impenetrable prison. Or is it? Patriots learn of a way in, proposing a daring – even suicidal – raid. But it will take brave men to accomplish it, men of rare honour and courage: they will be facing an enemy who will fight them to the death.
Filled with brutal set-pieces and innovative action – watch out for death by cymbal! – The Deadly Duo is as blood soaked and bone crunching as you'd expect from master director Chang Cheh. (Vengeance). 88 Films are proud to present this classic slice of martial arts movie magnificence for the first time on UK Blu-ray®.
Vengeance
Loyalty cuts deep; to the bone. When his brother is murdered by a well-connected martial artist, Guan Xiao Lou (David Chiang – The Deadly Duo) knows what he must do, and sets about doing it without hesitation or mercy. Blood will be spilt and honour will be satisfied, no matter what it will cost him.
A key film from kung fu Godfather Chang Cheh (and one of his absolute best), Vengeance is a stripped back – and thoroughly brutal – saga of retribution, with ferocious pace and iconic imagery. 88 Films are proud to present this seminal masterpiece on Blu-Ray® for the first time in the UK.
