Hello Film Society,
We've just received the programme for the Autumn season at the BFI. The number & quality of new releases coming out in October & November is breathtaking. Some are sure to be in consideration for our Spring programme...but what would your reaction be if one we considered was the original version of Ken Russell's The Devils? It was banned after its original release for its explicit nature (though our chairman remembers seeing it in 1972) but now it's coming back in full, unexpurgated glory.

Hello Film Society,
We look forward to welcoming you next Friday at The Venue, for the 2nd film in our current season. Miroirs No 3 is the latest film from Christian Petzold that explores the consequences for a family of a car accident near their home.
The film starts at 7.30 as usual. If you weren't able to come to The Last Viking but you're planning to be there on Friday, you'll be able to collect your membership card from committee members in the bar before the film.

Good morning Film Society,
It was terrific to see so many familiar faces and meet new members at the first film of the new season. Thank you for coming out to support us.
What a great evening it turned out to be! An audience of 177 were enthralled by The Last Viking and gave it a overall reaction score of 86%.
Have a good weekend and we look forward to seeing you at the next film in the programme, on September 25th.

You can collect your new orange membership card from the bar and discard your blue card from last year, which won't be valid. Seats are available on a first come, first served basis.

Good evening Film Society.
Welcome to the start of our 2026/7 season at The Venue on Friday with the Danish black comedy thriller The Last Viking. Details of the film are available here.

The first film is always popular and likely to be well attended. Members of the committee will be available to welcome you to the cinema. On arrival, please go to the bar to collect your new (orange) membership card. You will need to show this card to committee members at each film you attend; if you present the blue card (for 2025/6), you will be unable to come in. We are sorry we cannot accept any applications for membership on the night. If you have made a recent late application we will acknowledge it as soon as possible and issue your card at the first opportunity.
The bar will be open for members to buy drinks, which may be taken to the auditorium. Programmes for the season will also be available. Seats are on a first come, first served basis so please do not reserve seats for friends. If anyone needs assistance in finding a seat, please speak to a committee member.
We look forward to seeing you again.

The membership window for the 2026/7 season has now closed. If you submitted your application before 5pm today, it will be processed.
We will post a final update on membership at the end of the week, to allow time for all applications and payments to clear. Arrangements for our first film will be emailed to members (and posted here) early next week.

When you apply, remember to email [email protected] to notify us that you have paid. Your application will be acknowledged as soon as possible. Please be patient if you do not hear immediately.
We have set a limit of 325 members for the season but should your application come too late, you will be refunded.

Good morning Film Society,
As we enter mid August, there are a couple of things to remind you &/or make you aware of.
1) The membership window for our 2026/27 season is still open and will close at 5pm on Monday August 31st, or once we reach our maximum of 325 members - whichever happens first. Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, if you haven't yet applied.
2) The membership inbox is not being monitored for the next few weeks, so replies may take a bit longer than usual. We'll confirm membership after the application window closes. If we're unable to accommodate your membership, any payment made will be refunded in full.
