Ahead of its 20th anniversary, we are screening the classic This Is England at Hyde Park Picture House.

One of British independent cinema’s biggest success stories, the film represents the breakout success of indie auteur Shane Meadows, Stephen Graham and Sheffield-based studio Warp Films. As we anticipate 20 years of the film, we look at its legacy – and what its accolades have meant for the regional film scene in the UK.

For everyone who enjoyed My Neighbour Totoro over the weekend, don't worry, the joy of Ghibli doesn't end there. From Friday, we're showing The Secret World of Arrietty, the most beautiful, magical and heartwarming adaptation of The Borrowers 💖

It's our Head of Cinema Wendy's favourite Studio Ghibli film. Wendy says, “There’s something incredible about children’s films that manage to hint at the well of feelings and experiences still to come, which is quite amazing, and that Arrietty captures that period of adolescence with a strange realism whilst never losing grip of the magic of the story it’s telling. It's really a wonder to me.” ✨

Even people who say, "Sense and Sensibility isn’t usually my kind of film," like our work placement student Oliver, end up loving the film. Oliver "especially liked the cinematography and visual style."

We've still got some opportunities to see this adaptation of Austen's classic novel at HPPH.

“Tom Cruise is unrecognisable as Digger, a tycoon sure he can save the world. Iñárritu's riotous, beautiful satire is shot in VistaVision and shown that way at HPPH. Shot entirely in VistaVision and designed for the big screen, it is the kind of film best experienced rather than explained.” - Tanmay Kulshrestha, Venue Coordinator.
