Oakwood Cinema

Oakwood Cinema Community Cinema showing a mixture of mainstream, unusual and community focused films. All not for

Oakwood Cinema is a community led and community based non-profit venture, set up to bring great films to Oakwood in north east Leeds. Created by a group of local people who are passionate about cinema, our aim is to show a variety of superb films on a monthly basis at the Parochial Hall on Fitzroy Drive - just a few yards away from the Oakwood Clock. It is fitting that one of the great pioneers of

film, Louis Le Prince, lived and worked close by and actually filmed one of the first every moving pictures in a Roundhay garden in 1888. We hope the spirit of Le Prince can live on through Oakwood Cinema!

Okay, you need to trust us on this one! A film about a 1990s Neil Diamond tribute act might look a bit niche at first glance.

It's been a surprisingly well-reviewed hit: Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson both excel in the starring roles and Hudson was nominated for both an Oscar and a Bafta for her performance.

Peter Bradshaw's Guardian review said this: "Here is a startlingly strange, undeniably entertaining true-life story from the heartland of American showbusiness; a lovable crowdpleaser whose feelgood flavour won’t prepare you for the way the plot repeatedly and savagely twists like an unsafe fairground ride.”

Our film in February will be the moving and hugely entertaining I Swear - the real life story of a young man growing up with Tourette's syndrome. Set in Scotland, the film features fantastic performances by both Scott Ellis Watson and Robert Aramayo, playing the lead character John Davidson at different ages.

Please note I Swear contains some distressing scenes of violence, and lots of swearing, of course!
