Draycott Community Cinema For film fanatics and occasional viewers alike, our community cinema is here for all dwellers of Draycott, Rodney Stoke and the surrounding hamlets.

Draycott Community Cinema has been brought together by a few locals who share a love for cinema. This small group of individuals have managed to create an inclusive and welcoming space for film enthusiasts in the community and beyond. By pooling their resources and passion, they look to establish a cinema that not only showcases a diverse range of films but also fosters a sense of belonging among its members. Unlike most other community cinemas, it opens its' doors to all ages and welcomes suggestions for well loved films, for old, young and family events. With some very special events planned too, this new venture is already proven its a lovely and relaxed social event. The committee is always looking for new members and of course hugely value the support from our volunteers at every event. DRAYCOTT COMMUNITY CINEMA COMMITTEE REVIEW: The Search for Squarepants:

'Searching' is the clue to this film. Our endearingly naive hero, SpongeBob, is in search of a Swashbuckling Certificate to prove he's really brave. Determined to earn this he leaves the safetly of his home in Bikini Bottom and enters dangerous waters.

Here he encounters The Flying Dutchman who is also searching - for an innocent soul to reverse the curse condemning him to an endless life of Dayglo Green transparency.

Meanwhile Bob's mentor, Mr Crabs, is searching too - for SpongeBob, to prevent the ghoulish pirate from condemning his young innocent friend to an endless life of Dayglo Green transparency.

Using just blind optimism and a bottle of bubble mixture SpongeBob overcomes the deepwater challenges and is recognised by his ocean dwelling pals as really brave while the dastardly Dutchman must continue his miserable life of Dayglo green transparency.

Eyeballs and assorted underwear, along with the bubbles, feature strongly in this surreal but entertaining, animated film.

SEND HELP - DRAYCOTT CINEMA COMMITTEE REVIEW:

Help??? Who exactly needs help? Certainly not capable, professionally thwarted Linda from strategy and planning. Already schooled in survival techniques, being stranded on a desert island with her arrogant, entitled, wimpy boss suits her impressive skillsets perfectly. Her new agenda becomes an escalating, murderous saga hell bent on achieving Revenge long before Rescue.

Unexpected plot twists, combined with moments of laugh out loud comic genius, expertly balance out the exaggerated violence, gore and sheer grossness characterising this film (ie projectile vomiting while performing the kiss of life!!?) while the 2 leads convincingly embrace their blood soaked battle.

Hugely entertaining - we LOVED it!

THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE - SEARCH FOR SQUAREPANTS:

Well-intentioned and delightfully-dumb SpongeBob and his trusty starfish pal Patrick yearn to splash about with the big boys (buoys...?).

They follow a ghost pirate down to the depths of the Underworld where the mysterious 'Flying Dutchman' has very different, ghoulish plans for our ocean dwelling heroes. Manic marine mayhem is inevitable.

SEND HELP: Linda from Strategy and Planning and Bradley, her arrogant, newly promoted boss, are the only survivors after a plane crash. Stranded on a deserted island their unresolved resentments and intense dislike of one another take centre stage and a brutal battle of wits unfolds. Expect blood and belly laughs in equal measure!

LAST NIGHT OF THE PROMS: ROAD WORKS!!! What road works? The local patriotic populace never, Never, NEVER! shall be deterred from celebrating their annual flag-waving festival of the best of British music by a few pesky bollards and a set of tedious traffic lights.

DCC COMMITTEE REVIEW: The outcome of this fast paced tale of an undersized ungulate winning the day against all odds - never mind the opposition his own Roar Ball teammates threw huge bodies and obstacles his way - was pretty much a forgone conclusion.

But this diminutive goat didn't only have big dreams. He wore shocking pink and lime green trainers, had streetwise moves accompanied by a rap soundtrack and lots of hoodie wearing loyal friends. To add some jeopardy he also had to compete on hot rocks and ice floes all the while being managed by a smarmy double crossing warthog sporting agent. Also his rent was long overdue... So it was a tough, exciting battle to get that winning ball finally into the basket.

DCC COMMITTEE REVIEW: Even though this film ended happily it transpired that the problems of an estranged couple combined with stand up comedy do not make for a winning formula - see below how our discerning Draycott audience voted. Overheard comments included "That's not a comedy club I'll ever return to" and 'It meandered".

So we've taken these negative votes and criticisms on board (as well as on our sensitive chins), instructed the AI-algorithm-film-choice-generating-Bot to steer clear of 'meandering comedy clubs' and will look forward to our next screening - 'Send Help' - which combines 2 battling coworkers with a desert island....
