DCC COMMITTEE REVIEW:
Not one but TWO intervals for this year's 3 hour Oscar Best Film! And, Yes, we needed them but what a nail-biting, and frequently hilarious, rollercoaster. Sean Penn and Leonardo Di Caprio portrayed utterly believable adversaries engaged in escalating chaos, danger and absurdly comedic situations.
The initial 20 minutes were a bit confusing and contained a fair bit of s*x and violence (our apologies to the couple who left early) but this film eventually offered so much more along with its cracking plot:
- a glimpse into the desperation of Mexican immigrant families alongside the workings of the underground railway supporting them
- the passionate revolutionaries futile and misguided attempts to fight a ruthless military suppressor
- even the lengths a hapless single parent will go to to protect his wilfull teenage daughter
- in amongst the chaos the bravery and still calm of the community leader, played by the the brilliant Benicio Del Toro, supported by a band of subversive ma*****na growing nuns.
The Committee loved it. If you were in the audience please 'like' or comment, you don't have to agree with the above as we are always interested to hear what the audience thinks of our film choices.
