Star Cinema is the local, independent movie theatre in the heart of Sidney, BC. We have two screens, one of which has been upgraded to a digital projector.

Star Cinema is a local, independent movie theatre that has been in operation since 1998. We value offering our patrons great customer service, affordable prices, a fantastic film selection as well as a friendly community feel. We change our film schedule weekly and we like to bring wide variety of films, from independent to foreign to big blockbusters. Our hope is to always have a film for everybo

dy. We are also a great place to host birthday parties, as well as rent out the theatre for private showings. Our ticket prices are $9.00(adults), $7.50 (seniors & students) and $6.00 (child - 13 and under). On Tuesdays, all seats are $6.00 for everyone! The last opera of the 2025 - 2026 Metropolitan Opera season plays this Saturday, May 30th at 10am at Star Cinema!

American composer Gabriela Lena Frank’s first opera, a magical-realist portrait of Mexico’s painterly power couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, with libretto by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Nilo Cruz. The famously feuding pair briefly relive their tumultuous love, embracing both the passion and the pain before bidding the land of the living a final farewell.

You may not have had heard of this film yet, but Tuner is turning out to be, "One of 2026’s biggest surprises. A hugely entertaining, gripping crime-thriller that showcases compelling performances from Dustin Hoffman and Leo Woodall, a sharp script and a fantastic, jazzy score."

Unfortunately, one of our projectors is currently
out of service, and as a result, we need to cancel some screenings. The new projector part is scheduled to arrive on
Friday, and the projector will be back up and running.

Unfortunately, one of our projectors is currently out of service, and as a result, we need to cancel three screenings this week: two screenings of You, Me & Tuscany and one screening of The Devil Wears Prada 2 (see below).
We are working to have the projector repaired as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
