Synopsis

A Tibetan Buddhist monastery in exile, in the foothills of the Himalayas. The 1998 World Cup is drawing to its final, and a young monk is willing to do anything — including defying his superiors — to let his fellow monks watch the final. What begins as mischief becomes an act of community, a lesson about modernity, and a celebration of what unites human beings across borders. The first Dzongkha-language film ever nominated for an Academy Award.

Humberto has just been released from prison. Three years sober, he returns to Cochabamba with one desire: to rebuild his relationship with his daughter Aleida, who lives in the care of her maternal grandparents — wealthy Evangelical pastors who have no intention of giving up custody. Without money or lawyers, Humberto becomes a visitor to his own fatherhood. Winner of the Best Screenplay Award at Tribeca 2022. Hi there!

In May and June, El Caminante Cine Club and El Torrefactor Cultural bring you a film series that will make you confront your passions!

To mark the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be played across Mexico, the United States, and Canada in June and July, we're thrilled to present the flm season: 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗼𝘄.

𝗙𝗢𝗢𝗧𝗕𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗜𝗡 𝗦𝗨𝗡 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗦𝗛𝗔𝗗𝗢𝗪

Football (soccer) is perhaps the only truly universal language: it summons the best and the worst of the human condition, from sheer joy to the excesses of capitalism and the national identities that come into play over ninety minutes.

To mark the 2026 FIFA World Cup, El Caminante Cine Club and El Torrefactor Cultural present a series of five films exploring this universal passion.Five countries, five realities, five ways of loving and suffering soccer. A single question: what do these unbridled passions, the ones to which we surrender our lives, say about us?

Join us for this series, dedicated to the most beautiful sport in the world!
