It’s wild how much we’re all being manipulated to think the problem for everything is immigrants. It’s absolutely not!

We hit the streets with Omar Mouallem to try an experiment. We gave people a syringe representing Alberta’s entire healthcare budget and asked them to drain out how much they think non-permanent residents use. The guesses were wild. The reality? Just watch to see the reactions, and share the truth before the vote.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿‑𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲
I’m old enough to remember when the U.S. tried year‑round Daylight Saving Time in the 1970s. It was meant to last three years — a test to see if longer daylight hours would save energy during the oil crisis.

They absolutely hated it. By winter, kids were getting up, heading to school, and starting classes in complete darkness. Academic performance dropped, and parents worried about safety. Workers on 9‑to‑6 shifts left home in the dark and came back in the dark.

The experiment was cancelled after less than a year. Adjusting the clocks remains necessary to keep our daylight hours aligned with daily life.

Now Alberta is moving to year‑round DST — it’ll be interesting to see how folks in Edmonton feel this winter when sunrise doesn’t come until nearly 10 a.m.

𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗴𝗮𝗿𝘆‑𝗦𝗵𝗮𝘄 𝗕𝘆𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 — 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟰, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 Voters in Calgary‑Shaw elected 𝗞𝘆𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗹 (𝗔𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮 𝗡𝗗𝗣) as their new MLA, marking the first NDP win in the riding since 2015.

The byelection was triggered by the resignation of former UCP MLA Rebecca Schulz earlier this year.

Unofficial results show Campbell leading with 7,461 votes to 6,879 for UCP candidate Mike Derry. Elections Alberta will confirm official results on September 24.

There’s a rumour that 𝗔𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗘 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗴𝗮𝗿𝘆 may close its retail shop at the factory because sales no longer support staying open. This is exactly why it matters to 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘀.

Let’s talk about something you hear on the news a lot: 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

Inflation means 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗴𝗼 𝘂𝗽 over time.
When people say inflation is “low” or “moderating,” it sounds like good news — but it doesn’t help everyone the same way.
Here’s what’s really going on, explained in simple terms.

⭐ 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝘄?
𝟭. 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲
Rich families don’t spend much of their money on things like gas, groceries, or electricity.
They also own things like houses and stocks, which usually 𝗴𝗼 𝘂𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀.
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺:
Low inflation protects their money and makes their investments safer.

𝟮. 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀
Large businesses like low inflation because:
Their costs don’t rise as fast
They can plan ahead more easily
They don’t have to raise workers’ wages as much
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺:
They keep more profit.

𝟯. 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀
Banks love low inflation because:
The money people owe them keeps its value
Loan payments stay steady
It’s easier to predict the future
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺:
Their loans become safer and more valuable.

𝟰. 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘀
People who get 𝗳𝗶𝘅𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 — like pensions — don’t lose as much buying power when inflation is low.
𝗕𝘂𝘁:
Retirees who spend a lot on food and energy still feel squeezed.

⭐ 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻?
𝟭. 𝗟𝗼𝘄‑𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀
These families spend most of their money on 𝗴𝗮𝘀, 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 — things that are still expensive even when inflation slows down.
Independent research shows:
Their leftover money each month is barely growing
Gas and food prices are rising faster than their pay
Cuts to programs like SNAP and Medicaid make things harder
Energy costs are expected to rise a lot this year
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺:
Prices stay high, but paycheques don’t grow fast enough.

𝟮. 𝗠𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲‑𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀
These families feel the squeeze too because:
Wages are rising slower than before
Rent and housing costs are still high
Job growth has slowed down
Everyday items didn’t get cheaper — they just stopped rising as fast
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺:
They don’t get ahead, even if inflation is low.

𝟯. 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗲𝗯𝘁
If you have:
credit card debt
adjustable‑rate mortgages
personal loans
…you don’t benefit much because interest rates are still high and balances don’t shrink.

⭐ 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝘀
When experts say “inflation is low,” they’re talking about 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴, not the 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹.

Low inflation does 𝗻𝗼𝘁 mean:
groceries got cheaper
rent went down
gas prices dropped
wages kept up
families have more money left over
It only means prices are rising 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙡𝙮 — not that they’re falling.
For many families, prices are still high, and paycheques aren’t keeping

⭐ 𝗕𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗺 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲 (𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲‑𝟲 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆)
𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲, 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 benefit the most from low inflation.
𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 — especially low‑income and middle‑income — don’t feel much relief.
Prices stay high, wages slow down, and families have 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 each month.
So even though the news says “inflation is low,” it doesn’t mean life is easier for everyone.

Canada and the United States don’t trade as master and servant.
We trade as neighbours — two sovereign nations whose economies, families, and communities are deeply connected.

Canada said no to a deal that crossed the line from negotiation into control.
Because partnership doesn’t mean surrender.
And sovereignty isn’t for sale.

• Canada is one of America’s largest export markets
• Canadian purchases support millions of U.S. jobs
