The Cannes Film Festival officially kicks off today, and Belgium is everywhere at Cannes 2026 🇧🇪

Two Belgian films are competing for the Palme d'Or this year:

🎬 Coward by Lukas Dhont (in cinemas 28/10), a WWI story about two young soldiers finding beauty in the theatrical shows they perform at the front.

🎬 Notre Salut by Emmanuel Marre; set in Vichy France, following an engineer trying to infiltrate the collaborating regime.

But Belgium’s presence goes far beyond the competition lineup.
Filmmaker Laura Wandel joins this year’s jury, continuing her rise from Un monde (Cannes 2021) to helping decide the Palme d'Or winner.

And Brussels-born Virginie Efira stars in not one, but two competition films this year:
Histoires parallèles by Asghar Farhadi and Soudain by Ryusuke Hamaguchi.
Belgians are on screen, behind the camera, and in the jury.

Small country. Big impact. 🇧🇪
