A government assembly in GoiΓ‘s, Brazil, has officially adopted a mixed-breed rescue dog named JoΓ£o and even gave him his own employee ID badge.

JoΓ£o has become the face of the assembly's pet-friendly policy. According to Assembly President Bruno Peixoto, his special "job" is to brighten the days of employees and visitors with his friendly presence, reminding everyone that kindness and compassion have a place in the workplace too.

A frightened female wolf is alive today thanks to the quick actions of firefighters in Verona, Italy.

The wolf had fallen into the Giuliari artificial canal and couldn't escape. Rescuers carefully sedated her before lifting her safely from the water. She was then examined by veterinarians and placed in the care of wildlife authorities to recover.

While one group of volunteers was busy saving a wild animal, another community in Villadose was left heartbroken after vandals damaged a youth recreation center used by local scouts. The volunteers said the building holds no valuablesβ€”only a place where young people learn, grow, and build friendships.

One story reminds us of the kindness people are capable of. The other reminds us how easily that kindness can be hurt.

Thankfully, the wolf now has a second chance at life because people chose compassion.

What looked like a fun soccer tournament became something much bigger.

Inspired by the FIFA World Cup, the first-ever World Pup Competition brought together 48 rescue dogs, divided into eight national teams, for a friendly tournament filled with wagging tails, playful tackles, and plenty of unforgettable moments.

But the real goal wasn't lifting a trophy.

It was helping these rescue dogs find families who would love them forever.

Former U.S. World Cup player Jimmy Conrad stepped in as the event's "rufferee," joking that the canine version of soccer had a lot more sniffing, tail wagging, and happy chaos than the human game.

The best part? Many of the dogs who took part have already been adopted, proving that sometimes all an animal needs is one chance to be seen.

When powerful floodwaters swept through communities in Nayarit, Mexico, after a tropical storm, 10-year-old Jostin Dalian refused to stand by and watch innocent animals suffer.

Using nothing more than a plastic wash tub as a tiny boat, the brave boy paddled through the flooded streets, rescuing dogs, cats, chickens, and other stranded animals one by one.

Despite living with a disability that affects one of his legs, Jostin never let it stop him. While many people were focused on saving their own belongings, he was determined to save lives that couldn't call for help.

When firefighters in Cape Coral, Florida, received a call about a dog struggling to stay afloat in Britannia Lake, they didn't hesitate. A brave bystander had already jumped into the water, trying desperately to save the exhausted animal.

But every time rescuers got close, it would swim away, back and forth across the lake, too frightened to trust the people trying to help.

Just when hope was fading, a neighbor grabbed a kayak and joined the rescue. Together, they found the exhausted animal hiding beneath a dock, too weak to keep going.

Only after pulling it safely from the water did everyone realize the truthβ€”it wasn't a lost dog at all. It was a young, severely underweight coyote fighting for its life.

Instead of turning away, the rescuers made sure the frightened animal got the help it needed. The coyote was taken to a wildlife rehabilitation center, where it could finally receive food, treatment, and a second chance.

A rare and heartwarming rescue unfolded on Manaba Beach after a juvenile African penguin was found exhausted and stranded far from its usual habitat.

Madelein and Simon du Plessis spotted the young penguin washed ashore and immediately stepped in to help. They stayed with the frightened bird, protecting it from harm and keeping people at a safe distance until help arrived.

Soon, Lower South Coast SPCA Inspectors Dumisani Gumede and Mike Davis reached the scene and safely secured the penguin. It was taken in for assessment and rehabilitation to give it the best chance of returning to the wild.

African penguins are rarely seen on the KZN South Coast, making this rescue especially remarkable. It's also a reminder that if you ever come across stranded or injured wildlife, the best thing you can do is contact your local animal welfare organization instead of trying to handle the animal yourself.

Thanks to the quick actions of caring people, this little penguin now has a second chance. ❀️🐧
