The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) is an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture that was created to ensure the equitable growth of South Africa's film and video industry. We do this by providing funding for the development, production, marketing and distribution of films and also the training and development of filmmakers. In addition, the NFVF commissions research and produces in

A new platform for internationally oriented documentary series projects is coming to EFM 2027.

Selected projects will connect with commissioning editors, producers, financiers, distributors, and other industry professionals through pitching, matchmaking and pre-scheduled meetings.

Curated with DOK.forum, the industry platform of DOK.fest München, in collaboration with EFM DocSalon and the Berlinale Series Market.

🎞NFVF SPOTLIGHT📌

Meet Karabo Lediga, a writer and director for television and film. Her short film, which she wrote and directed, titled ‘What Did You Dream?’, premiered in competition at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival and was also in competition at the Palm Springs International Short Film Festival, amongst others. It won Best African Short at the Durban International Film Festival (2021). Karabo has written for the first African Netflix Original series, the spy thriller ‘Queen Sono’.

The NFVF is hosting a Female for Female Film training week in Rietfontein in Kalahari, Northern Cape, in commemoration of Women's Month. The training is conducted by seasoned female filmmakers: Carolyn Carew, Meg Richards, Queen Motlatle, and Sunel Haasbroek. The participants are being trained on producing and the value chain; directing; makeup; hairstyling & SFX; and cinematography.

Congratulations to the NFVF-funded film, SEBATA—SEBATA - The Beast, on winning the Outstanding Film Fiction Award at the National Arts and Culture Awards, NACAs 2026.

🎞NFVF SPOTLIGHT 📌

Meet Khosie Dali, a South African film producer dedicated to developing and producing impactful African stories for local and international audiences. She has produced feature films, short films, and commercial content recognised at festivals worldwide.
Her producing credits include Sons of the Sea, The Wait, and the Academy Award-submitted South African feature film The Heart Is A Muscle, which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) and received the Ecumenical Jury Prize.
