Vanjaar merk die 100ste bestaansjaar van Afrikaanse Films.
"De Voortrekkers" is 'n stilrolprent, sonder klank, wat op 16 Desember 1916 vrygestel is. Dit word as die eerste Afrikaanse rolprent beskou omdat flitskaarte in Afrikaans of Nederlands tussen tonele vertoon is. Die rolprent is deur die Amerikaanse magnaat, Isadore William Schlessinger befonds.
Die film handel oor die Boere se Groot Trek teen die einde van die 1830's. Dit eindig met 'n rekonstruksie van die Slag van Bloedrivier in 1838, waar 'n paar honderd Afrikaners duisende Zoeloes verslaan het. Die film is lank na sy vrystelling steeds in klaskamers en ter herdenking van die gebeure vertoon.
