In January 2010, a/perture cinema opened as a small two-screen art house cinema with the purpose of showcasing independent, foreign, documentary, local and festival films. a/perture quickly became a destination for non-commercial and artistic films that were not offered elsewhere in Winston-Salem and the surrounding communities. Located in the heart of downtown Winston-Salem, a/perture revived the

theatrical experience in the central business district. Over the past eleven years, a/perture has become a space to enjoy and celebrate art on film while fostering social capital and shared experiences. a/perture provides the community a home for more than 4,000 film screenings and events per year. a/perture’s mission is to engage and entertain the community through the art of film by showcasing informative, educational, thought-provoking and inspiring films – films that enrich lives, engage minds, promote diversity and build community.

The film lovers in our community are raving about Director Mark Jenkin's ROSE OF NEVADA, and RiverRun International Film Festival Executive Director Michael Morin is joining us this Wednesday for a special screening of the film 🎬 Plus, we're co-hosting a special pre-show mixer starting at 6:30pm.

Here's a little history about the film ⬇️

After premiering at the Venice Film Festival in 2025, Rose of Nevada went on to play major festivals in Toronto and New York before opening in the US in the summer of 2026. Mark Jenkin’s unique style of shooting sets this film apart, utilizing a Bolex 16mm camera in addition to not recording sound on location, instead creating the soundscapes of his films entirely in post-production, allowing for a control of tone and mood that pushes the fantastic script and performances into an otherworldly movie-going sensation. Starring George Mackay (The Beast, 1917) and Callum Turner (Green Room, Eternity), alongside a cast of locals of Cornwall, the hometown of writer and director Jenkin.

Synopsis ➡️ A mysterious boat returns to a village 30 years after vanishing. Two men join its crew hoping for better fortune. After one voyage, they find themselves transported back in time, mistaken for the original crew.
