TRIGGER WARNING

I came across this song this morning and it blew my mind! The verses are two sides of an addictive relationship. One being the loved one/family member who is scared, frustrated, angry, unsure of how to help. Who gives up and does what is best for them. Who doesn’t understand the other side! They cannot be blamed!
The second verse… the other side.. the addict. Who is experiencing the disease, experiencing the guilt, the loneliness, the weight of the demons lies and obsession, the frustration of everyone telling you, you are wrong etc.! The addiction is often the only escape from those thoughts and emotions. (At least it seems that way)

Listen to the words of both! They tell two sides of the same story. The way one’s choices effect another and how we respond effecting the other right back! Now this can be about addiction it can also be about almost anything we struggle with communicating about!

But I will keep it to addiction cuz that is me! In just over 13 months of sobriety I have experienced both sides. I’ve preached sobriety to others in the rooms and groups! I’ve felt the frustrations of those I’ve met care about themselves less than me … a stranger cares about them and eventually lose their life!

I can promise you if I care I’ll never stop! Addiction is a choke collar we put on ourselves. One that changes who we are, how and what we love! A collar with a lock that only we know the code too. One that only we can decide to take off! One that we are not aware of at times. One that we need others to help us acknowledge is there and help us remove it! But it is ours to remove!

To those that love us… don’t give up! I promise you evil and harsh words may be used. Feelings may get hurt! Resentments built! I know this… that damage we do we have to live with and it may seem we don’t care or we care more for the addiction. We do not. That love for the addiction is fake. Deep down we want to be free of the collar! It’s the scariest thing we have ever experienced!

If you are struggling or are afraid for one you love don’t give up! Either side there is support! There is a light at the end of the darkest tunnel! ALWAYS!

I will be that light just call out!

Anyone out there woodworkers/cabinet/furniture makers but more specifically finishing work. I have paint/finishing work that needs to get done for furniture and I have no idea what I’m doing. Thanks in advance!

There were times I felt weak, times I felt like I wouldn’t make it another day, times I wanted to give up, feelings of exhaustion, feelings of being alone, thoughts of failure and feelings of not deserving it.
However there were more times of strength, resiliency, pride, gratitude, belief in myself, feelings of goodness and worth, power, energy and accomplishment! Because no matter what the negative inner voices said I did it! I’m worth it! I’m worthy of family, and love and friendship! I have developed a new view on myself. I have developed new relationships with familiar and unfamiliar people (including myself). I’ve gone to restaurants, birthday parties, axe throwing, giants games, and amazing concerts and so much more in this new life.
None of this positivity could have been possible with out the commitment to bettering myself or the commitment of my beautiful, amazing wife Allie Madden and family! If you have played a role in my sobriety you know who you are! I don’t need to tag you! Gordy Hiltz (except you cuz you eat crayons)

Life…. It’s not about clicks and likes! It’s about learning to like yourself! Make the brave choice to “share” and “like” yourself! Life is about growth and change! So make a choice today to be a better you! You can and you will if you want it!

So face your challenges whether they be sobriety, depression, loneliness, self esteem, self image, etc! You are not alone! Reach out to someone who cares! If they won’t help I will!!!!
