The first Cannes Film Festival I ever attended, in May 2006, was a deliriously star-studded affair. Penélope Cruz, Ethan Hawke and Kirsten Dunst walked up the red-carpeted steps. Future Oscar hopefuls like Volver, Babel and Marie Antoinette competed for the Palme d'Or, the festival's top prize.

Though the 2026 festival featured less Hollywood razzle-dazzle than in years past, there were still plenty of great films. Most notable: All of a Sudden, from the Japanese director Ryûsuke Hamaguchi.

Meteorologists are rarely the heroes of major Hollywood movies. Never say never.

The new movie tells a story about how good meteorology can literally win wars. It also takes us back in time, to when the United States was at a disadvantage when it came to weather science.

It's Hollywood's blockbuster season, meaning something for everyone (and sometimes a couple of somethings — two Zendaya/Tom Holland epics, for instance). There'll be sequels, reboots, and remakes, action for days, romance for dates, animated comedy both classic and fresh, and more LGBTQ+ films in three months than in most full years. Here are 15 titles we can't wait to catch.

The Toy Story squad takes on a tablet, the Minions take on Hollywood and Christopher Nolan takes on a Greek epic.
