An Important Update from the Pocahontas Theatre

We're disappointed to share that Toy Story 5 will not be showing at the Pocahontas Theatre this weekend. The studio canceled our booking, and this decision was beyond our control.

We sincerely apologize for the disappointment and appreciate your understanding and patience.

Spider-Man and The Odyssey will continue to show as scheduled.

WELCOME BACK, POCAHONTAS THEATRE!

What an unforgettable night!

The City of Welch proudly celebrated the Grand Re-Opening of the Historic Pocahontas Theatre, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for one of our community's most treasured landmarks.

Following the devastating flood of 2025, many wondered how long it would take before the lights would shine again. Thanks to an incredible team effort, those lights are back on—and the Pocahontas Theatre is once again welcoming families, friends, and movie lovers through its doors.

During last night's celebration, Mayor Harold McBride, Sr. expressed his sincere appreciation to the McDowell County Commission and the McDowell County Economic Development Authority, whose generous financial support made the restoration and reopening of the theatre possible.

We also want to recognize our dedicated City of Welch, WV - CoalTown, USA employees, whose hard work, commitment, and countless hours helped bring this project to completion. Your dedication made this reopening a reality.

Most importantly, thank you to our community.

Your patience, encouragement, and continued support throughout this journey have meant more than words can express. This theatre has always been more than just a place to watch a movie—it's a place where memories are made, families gather, and our community comes together.

We also appreciate FOX59 News for joining us to help tell the story of this special evening. We look forward to sharing their coverage as soon as it becomes available.

IT’S SHOWTIME!

The lights are coming back on at the historic Pocahontas Theatre. We’re putting the final touches on the building and getting everything ready for our Grand Re‑Opening on Friday, July 31. The Reopening Ceremony begins at 6:00 PM, and we’re excited to welcome everyone back.

Opening night features a blockbuster lineup:

• The Odyssey — 7:00 PM (Fri, Sat & Sun showing)
• Spider-Man: Brand New Day — 7:15 PM (Fri, Sat & Sun showing)

The theatre remains closed due to ongoing repairs, and while there are no new updates to share at this time, progress is being made behind the scenes. We remain committed to keeping the community informed, and as soon as we have more details, you’ll hear from us here first.
