Hi everyone,
As most of you know, our projector stopped working in January, and we eventually lost the ability to stream and play DVDs as well. After five years of operation, the path forward has become clear. Many small, single-screen theaters are closing due to challenges like rising payroll and competition from streaming services, and The Glen Theater is no exception. The only viable option for a theater like ours is to transition into a non-profit model, which will allow us to utilize volunteers, hold fundraisers, and benefit from the expertise of a board of directors.
Behind the scenes, a small group of passionate community members has been meeting to assess whether operating as a non-profit is feasible for Watkins Glen. To form a "Theater Guild," they will need a core team of dedicated volunteers.
Additionally, they are looking for someone to lead this effort in a paid role. This individual will help launch the non-profit, handle marketing and promotions, manage fundraising, schedule movies and volunteers, and plan events. If you or someone you know is passionate about movies and bringing the community together, please let us know. There is a strong support system in place to guide whoever takes on this role.
If you are interested in volunteering or applying for this position, please email [email protected]
The future of the theater is now in the community's hands!
Thank you all for your incredible support and love over the last five years. My favorite part has been watching your littles grow up right before my eyes, which is truly what I will miss the most.
I will let you know the next time I am making a batch of popcorn this summer, and I hope to see you all soon.
Hasta la vista!
Julie
