Title: A Conversation That Was Never Meant to Happen
Daniel couldn't stop thinking about the woman behind the unexpected text.
He typed, erased, and typed again before finally sending:
"I hope tomorrow is kinder to you."
A few minutes later, Emily replied.
"Thank you. I buried my mom today. I wasn't ready to tell a stranger that... but somehow it feels easier."
Daniel stared at the message, his heart sinking.
He didn't try to fix her pain. He didn't offer empty promises.
Instead, he wrote:
"I'm so sorry for your loss. You don't have to pretend to be okay with me."
For the first time in weeks, Emily cried without hiding her tears.
That night, they talked for hours—not about romance, but about life, loss, broken dreams, and the loneliness that follows heartbreak.
By midnight, they realized something strange...
They had never seen each other's faces.
They didn't know what the other looked like.
Yet somehow, they felt understood.
Before going to bed, Emily sent one last message:
"Can I ask you something tomorrow?"
Daniel smiled.
"Of course."
He put his phone down, unaware that Emily's question would force him to confront the one truth he'd been running from since his divorce.
To be continued...
