We were lucky to have Tyler join the United Grain team this summer as an intern. He brought a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a genuine eagerness to learn every day. We're proud to have been part of his journey.

Tyler Young is a junior studying Operations and Supply Chain Management with a minor in Agricultural Commodity Risk Management (ACRM). This summer, Young embraced the agricultural side of his degree this summer as a Supply Chain Intern with United Grain.

A main project Young worked on was a Power BI dashboard tracking soybean production across North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota. Further analysis allowed him to track what percentage of that production is tributary to PNW exports, along. Young also prepared weekly market reports and shadowed the grain merchants. His favorite part of the internship was working at the grain elevator in Conrad, Montana, where he built relationships with producers and expanded his knowledge of risk management.

Young thanks the ACRM program for setting him up for success in this role by building a foundation in commodity market fundamentals and technicals. He says, “Going into the internship already knowing basis allowed me to apply those concepts right away and ask more in depth questions.” The exposure to merchandising, logistics, and data analysis helped Young piece together the full picture of the grain industry. He hopes to pursue a career in either grain merchandising or supply chain analytics after graduation.

Day 3 of NGFA’s 2026 Harvest Safety Week focuses on grain dryer safety.
