Multiple cinemas, vaudeville halls, and burlesque houses dotted the city's face, like a constellation of marquee bulbs and stage lights. The city, our city, was a hub for culture and entertainment. People from all walks of life flocked to our town to see the biggest and brightest stars on the silver screen and live in many of our amphitheaters and arenas. The city grew and prospered. By making the
arts a key element of the town's identity the community's economy was bolstered. Unfortunately, little of that theatre town remains. The city whose playhouses once entertained and electrified the masses slowly faded away. Once famous landmarks lost and replaced with parking lots and supermarkets. A once thriving destination for art lovers forever changed. The Summit Hippodrome was one of those landmarks. The theatre also know as The Summit Quad catered to Hudson County's movie buffs of all ages for over a century. After a long tradition of entertaining the families of our community the theater finally closed its doors in 2011. This should not be. Our hope is to revive the Summit Hippodrome. To make this place that has been a wonderful part of so many lives through out this town's history a destination for families once again. By renovating, re-utilizing, and reviving this theatre we aim to jump start Union City's economy and make our town an even more beautiful and culturally rich community.
