LāElisir dāAmore is one of the most beloved operas of composer Gaetano Donizetti and tells the story of the love-struck Nemorino, who believes a āmagic elixirā he purchases from the quack Dulcamara (actually a bottle of Bordeaux) will help win him the love of Adina. The opera features the famous tenor aria āUna furtiva lagrimaā (a furtive tear), and critical acclaim for Pavarottiās performance included: āPavarotti in splendid voice ⦠sings the role magnificently and does the requisite clowning, but he also gives the part an undercurrent of tragedy ā¦ā
The recording also features singers Judith Blegen, Sesto Bruscantini, and Brent Ellis, with conductor Nicola Rescigno. The film will be hosted by Tupper Arts Director of Performing Arts George Cordes, himself an opera singer who has sung the role of Dulcamara. Join us!
