“What’s your favorite scary movie?” That’s a question you may not want to answer if you want to keep your head, as the terrorized teens in Wes Craven’s bloody good slasher spoof find out when they tangle with a mysterious maniac who has an uncanny knowledge of horror movie clichés. Aided by Kevin Williamson’s meta-clever screenplay, Scream sees Master of Horror Craven reinvent the tired teens-in-peril genre, adding in satirical high school drama and lovingly sending up such masked killer movie tropes as “let’s split up and find out what’s going on,” and “the virgin will survive.” Amazingly, Scream still manages to be faithful to the horror premise, and starting with a genuinely frightening opening sequence featuring a nasty phone call to an increasingly freaked-out Drew Barrymore, the film sustains a comedy/horror high-wire act that never fails to deliver chills and thrills (not to mention a surprising amount of blood and guts) on a way-over-the-top funhouse fright ride. Who’s the killer? It could be anyone in the huge cast filled with ‘90s superstars, including Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courtney Cox, S***t Ulrich, Jamie Kennedy, Rose McGowan and Matthew Lillard. One of Craven’s most popular films and the first in an extremely successful scare franchise, Scream will definitely have you screaming for more!

You Had to Be There is a hilarious, emotional, and revelatory documentary about the legendary 1972 Canadian production of Godspell that changed comedy forever. The Toronto production of the musical about the life of Jesus starred a then-unknown cast of future comedy titans including Martin Short, Gilda Radner, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Dave Thomas – with Victor Garber as a hippie Jesus and Paul Shaffer serving as musical director. A crazy confluence of talent, the production lit the spark that ignited the comedy revolution that followed, leading to Saturday Night Live, SCTV, and a host of movies and TV shows. The film features interviews with all the surviving members of the cast, as well as other show business luminaries who testify to the production’s profound and lasting influence. You Had to Be There also makes use of never-before-seen-or-heard archives from the cast, including rehearsal footage and rare audio recordings of the musical itself, as well as cast parties of the gang hanging out at Marty and Eugene’s apartment late into the night, which shed joyful new light on this magical time and place.

Join the Heavy Petting shadow cast at The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a Loft Cinema tradition for 45 years and counting, and our very favorite gender-bending, rock-and-rolling, science fiction double feature musical extravaganza with a Transylvanian twist. So pull on those fishnets and don’t dream it … be it!

In The Rocky Horror Picture Show, square sweethearts Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon), stuck with a flat tire during a storm, stumble across the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry), a “sweet” cross-dressing scientist. As their innocence, inhibitions and clothing are lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including rocking biker Eddie (Meat Loaf), creepy handyman Riff (Richard O’Brien), perverse domestic Magenta (Patricia Quinn), and tap-dancing groupie Columbia (Little Nell), not to mention hordes of dancing Transylvanians. This FREE SCREENING will be held outdoors at Main Gate Square, 900 E. 2nd Ave., near the corner of University Blvd. and Tyndall Ave. Seating will be provided. Delicious food and drink are available for purchase at the many restaurants in Main Gate Square.

Parking is available in Tyndall Garage or Main Gate Garage. Parking is free in Tyndall Garage with validation from any participating merchant.
