It's Schedule Time! This week, we get into some scares with OTHER MOMMY (R). Jessica Chastain stars both as the mom in a troubled family - and as her demonic doppelgänger who wants to push said trouble to a terrifying new level. This comes to us from the folks at Blumhouse who know a thing or three about scaring an audience. To add to the excitement, we will indeed have another WEIRD WEDNESDAY this week, and we'll do yet another Owner's Surprise. So come out for some frightfully fun entertainment as we all gear up for Halloween. And now for that schedule.

Fri:
OTHER MOMMY - 7pm

Sat, Sun:
OTHER MOMMY - 4pm, 7pm

Mon, Tue:
OTHER MOMMY - 7pm

Wed:
OTHER MOMMY - 7pm
WEIRD WEDNESDAY - 9:15

It all adds up to big entertainment and smart money management! (And yes - of course you can come to just one or two films at our regular admission prices.) We'll have these available online, too, so stay tuned. So make those plans and mark those calendars! That's the Joy Cinema SCARE-A-THON - Saturday, October 24th starting at 1pm.

SCARE-A-THON UPDATE! To push the fun factor even further over the top, we'll be adding a very special, rarely seen animated short film to our program. Be sure to come in for our 1pm showtime to see Casper the Friendly Ghost in BOO MOON in dazzling 3D! This 1954 film is one of only a handful of 3D cartoons released during the 'Golden Age' of 3D. Big thanks to the WONDERFUL folks at 3D Film Archive for restoring this film and allowing us to book it. BOO MOON 3D will play immediately before our first Scare-A-Thon feature, MUNSTER GO HOME. It all happens Saturday, October 24th starting at 1pm!

One movie you surely want to catch at this year's Scare-A-Thon is THE GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN. In this 1942 sequel to "Son of Frankenstein," Lon Chaney, Jr. plays the Monster, and Bela Lugosi returns as the villainous Ygor. This movie marks the beginning of what I think of as the "popcorn" era for the Universal Monsters. From this film all the way through "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein," the pacing is faster, the monsters (often) get more screen time and the pure entertainment factor is off the charts. Familiar Universal contract players Evelyn Ankers, Lionel Atwill, Ralph Bellamy and other monster-flick regulars add to the fun. This will play in the 3pm slot at this year's Scare-A-Thon, and it's absolutely not to be missed!

One of the very best things about putting together the Joy Cinema SCARE-A-THON is that I get to share movies I've loved for years with a big, enthusiastic crowd of folks. They might be classics, they might be overlooked gems - or they might be movies that are, in some way, much better or more entertaining than their reputations would suggest. Which is why I encourage y'all to come see EQUINOX, playing in the 5pm slot at the Scare-A-Thon. This movie features giant monsters, cool stop-motion effects and even an ancient book that unleashes all manner of evil forces. (Whether it inspired "The Evil Dead" has been debated for decades.) Multiple Oscar winner Dennis Muren and his FX team deliver the goods in this fun, fast-paced monster/occult thriller. So don't miss it! That's Saturday, October 24th at 5pm.

It's October, me friends! And that means it's time for a few scares. To start things off with a scream, the Joy is proud to present the new horror/thriller OTHER MOMMY starring Jessica Chastain. See what happens when a malevolent spirit - who looks just like REAL Mommy - comes into a troubled household. Rated R for for Really Scary. Showtimes coming soon!

It's $5 TUESDAY! And we'll be showing PRIMETIME for just a few more days (Must End Thursday!). So come on out and enjoy a really good movie with some popcorn and other Joy treats. Showtime is 7pm. Tix are available at the door or by following the link below.
