PLEASE SHARE!! This is my post, and I am 29 years in the industry!!!
PSA for window film: Buyer Beware - IR is BS…… sort of. I’ll try and keep it short.
Infrared rejection (IRR) of window films is absolutely legitimate. What is misleading is the way that many film manufacturers and their dealers, which may be the shop or sales representative you are meeting with, represent IRR as the end all, be all solution to solve your heat gain issues.
While IRR is very important in reduction your heat gain, manufactures and dealers report where their film peaks in the IR spectrum vs the average across the IR band. This is very often a very narrow window, and it’s the number that consumers are often told when a film is presented to them.
Total Solar Energy Rejected (TSER) is the number you want to focus on. This number takes the average of all of the factors that contribute to your heat gain (IR, Visible Light, and UV). The higher the TSER, the better the overall performance of the film.
We have always educated and never sold strictly on IRR. Hope to see y’all soon.
