When cool, humid air near the surface meets the right temperature conditions, a cloud forms right at ground level. Cities like San Francisco are famous for their summer fog because cold Pacific Ocean air rolls in over the warmer land every afternoon. It's not mysterious β€” it's meteorology happening at eye level. ☁️

Here's something wild about thunderstorm clouds: a single cumulonimbus cloud can stretch from as low as 2,000 feet above the ground all the way to 60,000 feet (18 km) β€” right into the stratosphere where commercial jets fly. The base rumbles with thunder and lightning while the top is made of ice crystals spread into the shape of an anvil. Inside that one cloud: hailstones forming, updrafts screaming upward at 100+ mph, and enough electrical charge to power a city block. One cloud. An entire weather system stacked inside it. ⚑
