The Grand Cinema is your friendly neighborhood art house theater, the South Sound’s nonprofit home for independent, foreign and local film. A certified 501(c)3 tax exempt organization, our mission is to enhance the cultural vitality of the Greater Tacoma community through the art of film. The Grand is supported by our loyal patrons, volunteers, small staff and Board of Directors

In addition to screening independent, first-run films 365 days per year, The Grand is also the proud host of the Tacoma Film Festival, Tacoma Film Camp, 72 Hour Film Competition, 25 New Faces of Independent Film and many other film programs and events.

FREE FAMILY FLICK! The third Saturday of each month, The Grand Cinema welcomes guests of all ages to a family-friendly movie for free! Doors open at 9:30 am and movies start at 10:00 am. Seating is first-come, first-served. All children under age 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Casper is a kind young ghost who peacefully haunts a mansion in Maine. When specialist James Harvey arrives to communicate with Casper and his fellow spirits, he brings along his teenage daughter, Kat. Kaniehtiio Horn, who you may know from her performance in Reservation Dogs, wrote, directed, and stars in SEEDS, playing Monday, October 12 for Indigenous Peoples’ Day!

The screening is part of our Sovereign Cinema series, co-presented by Tahoma Indian Center – a film series centering Indigenous stories of reclamation, resistance, and resilience. Stick around for an in-theater panel with local Indigenous food sovereignty leaders and medicine practitioners Melissa Meyer (Rose Island Farm) and Channa Bliner-Smith (Canoe Journey Herbalists and Center for Indigenous Midwifery). Then, gather with us in the Lounge over refreshments and community resource sharing. The Tahoma Indian Center will have a limited number of complimentary tickets available for community members.
