We had a great time celebrating our volunteers at Aurora Cellars last week! Volunteers are the key to everything that happens at The Bay. Love movies and live events? We’d love for YOU to get involved! We have a wide range of opportunities, from working at the theatre itself to serving on committees like marketing and development (fundraising/grant-writing). We even have straightforward recurring tasks, like entering events into local events calendars and putting up posters around town, that can be done on a flexible schedule. Friends, couples, and co-workers also often enjoy volunteering together - it’s a great activity to do with someone else!

Want to learn more? Check out the volunteer link in the comments or email [email protected] to become part of our amazing volunteer team!

WEDNESDAY: Cinema Society returns at 1pm with the landmark Italian neorealist film “The Bicycle Thieves.” This beloved classic tells the story of a man who is thrown into desperation and despair when his precious bicycle, the mode of transportation he relies on to arrive at a hard-won job, is stolen in post-World War II Rome. As he and his ten-year-old son search throughout the city, the film becomes an odyssey in which the two encounter the best and worst of humanity. Stay after the show for a lively discussion with fellow film fans!

Don’t miss the full lineup of great classics and beloved films on the big screen the fourth Wednesday of every month for just $5 ($2 for Bay Theatre members).

Don’t miss the exciting conclusion of our spring Met Opera Live in HD series next Saturday, May 30 with “El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego”! American composer Gabriela Lena Frank makes her Met debut with her first opera, a portrait of Mexico’s painterly power couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, with libretto by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Nilo Cruz. Fashioned as a reversal of the Orpheus and Euridice myth, the story depicts Frida, sung by leading mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard, leaving the underworld on the Day of the Dead and reuniting with Diego, portrayed by baritone Carlos Álvarez. The famously feuding pair briefly relive their tumultuous love, embracing both the passion and the pain before bidding the land of the living a final farewell.

The 2-hour, 25-minute production includes one intermission. Doors open at noon; the live-streamed Met performance begins at 1pm. Tickets are $25 ($20 for select Bay members) and are on sale now at TheBayTheatre.org. Don’t miss it!
